Stalker Difficulty
So after a couple thousand or so days alive on voyager, I was getting bored. So started a stalker play through and the predator density is Fing ridiculous. Like how does every single possible path to anywhere have numerous wolves on it. I kinda expected like voyager density but where there normally would've been 1 wolf now there are 2-3. But no it's like every single square meter of mystery lake has a wolf that just chills there forever. Im going to end up with like hundreds of wolf carcasses lying around everywhere. They don't seem to thin out no matter how many you kill. Just like how is this fun at all. I wanted a bit more of a challenge, not for it to turn completely obtuse with it. Just doesn't make any sense for animals to like fan out in a tactical defensive grid. No idea how anyone plays on stalker or interloper, or im missing something.

That's kinda what i wanted. When you actually got hit by the wolves for it to be a bit deadlier. Not for their to be thousands of wolves of everywhere. lol It seems like you starve extremely fast on interloper though. but it could be my imagination. Im like playing stalker going "This is a joke right? Like this is a joke mode meant to mess with people. No realistic way there should be a pack of 3-4 wolves to the north, east, south and west of me at all times no matter where I am or go"

I play Stalker most of the time. You have to get used to walk with a wolf following you, they end up getting away most of the time.
And carry a torch whenever possible. Throw it on the ground just in front of you and aim at the wolf with any weapon (including stone), the wolf will fly every time. Work the same for flares but torches are renewable.

I play stalker and thats the part of the challenge, avoiding, fighting, encountering wolves

They hunt you down,if you are doing well, lure them away with meat, throw rocks, hide, use obstacles in your advantage, its fun.

I've played Stalker for a long long time, most of my time here. I don't even really notice them at all. With time you get to know where they are and find routes with minimum interaction and you get used to walk/sneak around them, distracted or whack em.

They often spawn in the same places, so you have to know alternate routes to go around them, or sneak if you have good clothes, or as has already been suggested ... just run and don't worry if there is a wolf following right behind you. Unless you have aggro'd a whole pack of them. If you get caught, you don't want to fight more than one.

Stalker is a bit mad on the wolves though, isn't it? I play custom. least wolves going, but tough. I don't like loper, not enough loot

Still haven't got all the badges because of custom play and I bought this in 2014

On Stalker and Loper the wolves are mainly to be avoided. On Stalker there are too many and will run out of ammo trying to kill them all. On Loper just one wolf attack has a good change of ending your run no matter how good you are.

That's my 2 Cents.

Yeah i think im going to have to go custom to get what im looking for. Wanted to try the other official modes first. I've been throwing rocks at the wolves like crazy. If you manage to bean them in the head, they seem to run away like.... half the time. lol. I've traveled with them behind me a lot but i'm going through flares like crazy. I didn't think about torches, i'll have to give that a go. Seems like ive taken a ton of detours and alternate routes, but its like i detour around a pack just to run into another pack on the detour, go an alternate route from there annnnd run into another pack smh. lol

I was in blackrock the other day on my voyager save, timberwolves were def present.

well i got bored in interloper so... just climp difficulty...
Claybot Jul 20, 2023 @ 5:48pm
All I play is Stalker simply because I suck at Interloper, the only wolves that really bother me are the timber wolves, the regular wolves are pretty easy to avoid, if you can't that's what the pistol is for.

What is climp difficulty? What the heck does the word climp mean? Never heard that in my life. lol. I don't like interloper just bc of the no real tools or equipment to be found thing and jesus it seems like your person needs to eat a truck load of food a day. I found a survival bow on stalker and have shot probably a dozen wolves in the face with fire hardened arrows in like 8 days, but I never seem to get the 1 shot kill an they run away. haha. I hear a lot of crows but every time i try to look around for the corpses, i get chased away by more wolves. lol. :painkillersTLD:

Interloper is all about staring at a fire for over half the time you are playing. I would rather play a custom game with rules that I enjoy. As I have said in the past: Interloper takes the N out of FUN and leaves it just FU.

@Shady, just to note, fire-hardened arrows only kill small game, as in bunnies & ptarmigan (& if you use them on bunnies, you're wasting your bow).

If you pick up a found bow, hunting small game is a good way to increase you skill level. I typically hunt small game with a bow ntil I reach level 2 because it's easy XP and I don't have to waste a sapling to do it.

Yeah, but shooting wolves with a small game arrow is better than being eaten. lol (I had found no other form of weapon in 14 days with all major locations in Mystery Lake visited.) I can nail rabbits with rocks like nobodies business. the trick is to strafe around till they are hopping straight towards you. Almost can't miss like that. Or once you get a rabbit hat, some will just sit there like A-holes while you walk right up to them an chuck a rock at em. But I just found Vaughn's Rifle in Carter Hydro and I got like 9 rounds. Time for some vengeance on these suckas. I know it's a waste of rifle rounds, but they pissed me off. Im sick and tired of all these MFing wolves on this MFing plane.

Aside from the new DLC regions at least you're never short on food (once you're at cooking level 5).
The trick with wolves is to just skirt around them, and you can then just walk with one growling behind you for as long as you like. I'm no expert, but after a while it's only the ones that appear from knowhere e.g. when you walk around a corner - that give problems.
