And carry a torch whenever possible. Throw it on the ground just in front of you and aim at the wolf with any weapon (including stone), the wolf will fly every time. Work the same for flares but torches are renewable.
They hunt you down,if you are doing well,lure them away with meat,throw rocks,hide,use obstacles in your advantage,its fun.
Still haven't got all the badges because of custom play and I bought this in 2014

I was in blackrock the other day on my voyager save, timberwolves were def present.
Interloper is all about staring at a fire for over half the time you are playing. I would rather play a custom game with rules that I enjoy. As I have said in the past: Interloper takes the N out of FUN and leaves it just FU.
If you pick up a found bow, hunting small game is a good way to increase you skill level. I typically hunt small game with a bow ntil I reach level 2 because it's easy XP and I don't have to waste a sapling to do it.
The trick with wolves is to just skirt around them, and you can then just walk with one growling behind you for as long as you like. I'm no expert, but after a while it's only the ones that appear from knowhere e.g. when you walk around a corner - that give problems.
