How will you use the trader?
From what I see in the artwork The trader will be located in a boxcar. It looks like it would be in the newer regions. What do you think you get for the following?
A rifle
bedroll
20 spray cans

We should have one location or it becomes OP. If we had the trader at the boxcar in ML life would be too easy. Do you think will visit there much? Just like to speculate.

Cooking pot? Climbing rope? Flashlight?

I'm not sure about the Trader. I'm supposed to be alone and hopelessly heading towards death. Not sure if there should be another person alive to get something from. Anyway I am sure HL thought about it for a long time and will implement it very well. I will just wait to see.

Doubt you'll ever get meaningful interactions with him. It's likely another survivor like you, but they won't risk meeting in person. It'll probably consist of a drop point being set up, then once you give the goods, they tell you where to find your payment.

Yes I think you are right. There was lots of forum comment about it. Not sure what I would want. Maybe a pot as OP suggested. Otherwise I like finding loot by myself.
But as I said I think HL will have thought it out very well and we will be pleasantly surprised.
Or otherwise angered beyond belief by some.

I just hope it isn't Metro styled and doesn't use bullets as currency.

The only bullets I'm giving is to Yogi and Bullwinkle. Trader can have the cash that I stole from the Credit Union.

Yeah, his is impossible to answer until the trader is in the game, and we know how it works.
No sense getting my hopes up for a way to get rid of a pile of rabbit skins I always have sitting around and getting an expedition parka in return.

I do wonder though if the handheld radio will be part of it- find the radio, hear someone talking on it, and that's how you find the trader. and set up a trade.

I agree, TLD greatest quality is that we are alone. At best the trader will be just a place you what items there are and what can give to get it. If HL make a Trader named "Lester" appears I do not if I will like that. I am content with NPCs being in Wintermute.

I think he'll be located in Transfer pass, there's basically nothing there, so I doubt they're done with it. No idea what he might trade, but it might largely be tied to new content such as cooking recipes.

With no information about the Trader, I might speculate that one of the functions of the Trader would be to introduce new recipes (improved cooking, crafted clothing, gear, etc.) and provide a means for characters to obtain the ingredients for things that might be comparatively rare or hard to obtain out in the wilderness that is Great Bear.

Another possibility, since there is no "money"per se, would be that the Trader might take a number of hides and, in exchange, pay for it from a selection of appropriate hide clothing. It might be decorative, certainly functional, but might have little things like pockets that have a small effect equivalent to the moose hide satchel mitigating one or two kilos of weight, when the garment is worn.

Seems like an inconvenient location, if the Trader is located in the Transfer area, for characters in other regions outside of TftFT expansion region to do trades, but we'll have to see what the devs came up with.

Put stuff in the Trader bin. Come back a few days later and see was taken and what was left behind. Over time you can figure out what to leave for a specific item or a chance for a specific item. A sort of survival trust exchange where you leave what you can spare and take what you need arrangement.

I think the best way to handle trading would be to have to use the radio to contact the person at certain predetermined times or intervals. Then, over the radio arrange what you want to trade for what. Basically when you activate the radio get a menu where you can swap items for items and a menu where you can arrange drop off locations. So you drop something off at one of the locations and the next day the stuff you dropped off is gone, replaced by whatever you arranged to trade for. Also it could be based on random inventory that the trader has at any given time.

Everything could be done out of sight of each other so you never really meet the trader, because neither of you would fully trust the other meeting in person.

I'm just hoping the trader will take some of the spare animal pelts I seem to accumulate in game.
