Doubt you'll ever get meaningful interactions with him. It's likely another survivor like you, but they won't risk meeting in person. It'll probably consist of a drop point being set up, then once you give the goods, they tell you where to find your payment.
But as I said I think HL will have thought it out very well and we will be pleasantly surprised.
Or otherwise angered beyond belief by some.
No sense getting my hopes up for a way to get rid of a pile of rabbit skins I always have sitting around and getting an expedition parka in return.
I do wonder though if the handheld radio will be part of it- find the radio, hear someone talking on it, and that's how you find the trader. and set up a trade.
Another possibility, since there is no "money"per se, would be that the Trader might take a number of hides and, in exchange, pay for it from a selection of appropriate hide clothing. It might be decorative, certainly functional, but might have little things like pockets that have a small effect equivalent to the moose hide satchel mitigating one or two kilos of weight, when the garment is worn.
Seems like an inconvenient location, if the Trader is located in the Transfer area, for characters in other regions outside of TftFT expansion region to do trades, but we'll have to see what the devs came up with.
Everything could be done out of sight of each other so you never really meet the trader, because neither of you would fully trust the other meeting in person.
I'm just hoping the trader will take some of the spare animal pelts I seem to accumulate in game.
