Memento(s) in Timber-wolf Mountain

So I have found two memento hints in TM. One note mentions the laptop next to the frozen in the cave of the chasm. I waited for the aurora to access the laptop which didn't have another fact or detail. As I write this, I'm thinking the laptop wasn't meant to be the memento even though it is mentioned in the note.

The other memento hint is next to the cave in deer clearing to go to Ash Canyon. I sprayed an x on the exact spot for the memento icon on the map. I've checked that dead tree next to the cave, I've checked a distance of 'hither' but not exceeding 'yonder' and I am flummoxed. I have no idea where the memento is actually.

Any help would be appreciated.

Some mementos just reveal the map for important places, others are caches and will specify if they are or not on the map.

I didn't understand this mechanic when it was added either, don't feel badly. It could have been explained a little better.

memento hints = lore and/or map reveal
memento cache = lootable location

thanks for that, I was thinking that hint it for lootable as well. Then hint just pointless, only good for new players.
