Glimmer Fog needs work
It happens WAY too suddenly.

Now on Week 2 in Forsaken Airfield. According to the game, Glimmer Fog "can happen at any time" but twice now I have noticed the fog just instantly beginning out of a clear blue sky. The worst moment was when I was out mapping away from base on a clear day and as soon as I sped time up to map, bam. Glimmer Fog. Totally lost.

It would be much betterif there was some sort of warning with it, like visibility decreasing over a short while.

Don't worry too much about the Glitter fog. If you're caught unawares build a fire and stay put ,if possible. or try to find your way to a sheltered place. Or someplace "underground" . If you get insomnia don't drink until you're ready to sleep (unless of course you don't want to take damage). When you want to sleep drink about 3 or 4 herbal teas and you can sleep peacefully through the night . By then the fog will be gone and so will the insomnia risk.
Never go anywhere unprepared, approach it as if something could happen , it WILL happen.

The only thing I don't like about the current implementation of glimmer fog is that it can be accompanied by high winds. It just seems like a fog shouldn't be able to set in if the wind is blowing really hard.

I agree. I'm not against the fog, I think it's a bad implementation. And some rework should be done in my opinion.

Let it happen whenever without warning. But I was thinking fog appearing form one side of the map (random) and then go fast to cover the whole place. Something like in the movie Mist - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LhCKXJNGzN8&ab_channel=HDQualityTrailers
At 0:34 variant. And you have some time to (5-10 seconds) do make a decision where to go until it passes.

I've encountered glimmer fog now twice in 48 hours. It really isn't a big deal except I can't see where I'm going. Can't understand why it was introduced as easily overcome.

Well i just spent 2 days with heavy snow / blizzard then night then blizzard in the morning then glimmer fog then heavy snow, no easy way to map stuff in this zone.

Third glimmer fog in a row. I can't leave Drift Island to do much of anything. Hope this is just bad luck. It's pretty boring having hours of it.

I haven't tested on anything but stalker, so I can't speak for frequency on the other difficulties.
But yeah, I've had bouts of these fog/blizzard/fog back to back. And while some complain about them while tryin to ride them out. Which I'm sure you can if stocked on food and supplies.
For me it presented a choice of having to explore during the fog or a blizzard and I choose the fog. Mainly due to it not damaging my clothing compared to a blizzard.

I found that during the "weathery" times, it was best to travel and explore during the period just before and after sunset. The world seemed a little less temperamental then.
My friend and I just call it Pleasant Valley 2.0 and it's a nice and dangerous place. We can't wait until there's a reason to go there, aka unique loot or these new survivor narrative stories.

Peace.

The glimmer fog isn't a big deal. Poor visibility but it's not cold like a blizzard, so you can just walk back to the airport if you know the map well enough to navigate back. I thought this thread was going to be about a different kind of issue. I never had any performance issues with this game, but the glimmer fog slows the game down to a crawl at first, then after a minute or so it's back to normal. It seems to take more graphics processing power than normal. Anyway I have spent 3 weeks there now and made my improvised knife in the basement forge, and am ready to head to the broken railroad if I can just get by that pack of wolves in the transition zone. I don't want to have to fight them with a bow and arrows.

I am in the 4th Interloper spawn in FA, and notice that Glimmer Fog are more frequently when you are in Drift Island cabin. I though that "tunnel" from pier to cabin should by "underground", but the place has 2 temperatures levels and blizzard blow inside.

I move from Mindfull Cabin for Airport during that fog. First by following the road, but since road pass near NW Bear den, I use "stick compass" for calculate a path in the open and arrive where I plan, the Final Approach Crash, from there to airfield is more easy.

I have seen 3 glimmer fog events and they do last too long (making it hard to navigate to safety). But my question is: what is 'insomnia' affliction? I have seen no affect: it comes on fast in the fog (too fast to escape it in my case), but then I sleep like a baby regardless. I had expected to wake up every 2 hours or something....but I saw no affect. Maybe it only has an affect if your health is low and you need recovery while sleeping, but - IDK - seems kind of inconsequential to me. Can someone explain? cheers!

I use a paint arrows for this, FA is a first region where a paint is useful. I make arrow signs showing directions.

I use paint to point the direction in caves given you can easily get mixed up and go back in the same direction you started from!

I never thought of using sticks as a compass, that's brilliant. Did the developers even think of this? I left FA 24 days after spawning there, and made it safely back to the cabin at Mystery Lake. I brought 4 flares but only needed two, somehow never found a lantern in FA. No wolf ambush on the way back, was just a walkout, and even walked by the dangerous road intersection in broken railroad with no predators. I never found any herbal tea in FA, but if you get insomnia you can still sleep for a few hours and maintain your health. FA has really bad weather and it's so much easier in ML.
