"The saltiest soup tested was Baxters vegetarian Italian tomato and basil, with 3.5g salt per 400g can. This contains more salt than a McDonald's Big Mac and large fries (just over 3.1g)"
The more you know!
Edit:
And fix MRE.... while we consume MRE we should also consume part of our water supply.
IMHO they should fix TS so it does make you more thirsty and then work on MRE because ther eis no way on earth dehydrated food will make you less thirsty xD Acutally MRE should work kinda like when you make tea or coffe so if you want to eat MRE you need to have some water. Ofc. there is few things in MRE which can be eaten without water like peanut butter/jelly and some sweat cake thing... each country have diff. MRE so it's hard to say what's inside but from what i see Long Dark have US Army MRE which does have 2-3 items which can be consumend without water BUT they will make you more thirsty one way or another.
One way or another water is essential for MRE to be fully consumed.
Not all.
We often used to carry them, because of the high calorie content and samll size and weight of each meal, when we were doing cave mapping or other scientific studies in large cave systems, that required us to be underground for more than 8 hours. They did not require water, or heating to eat them. And to be honest, many of the foods were not tasty, and were texturally better if water was added or if they were heated.
The IMP's the Caqnadian cavers carried were somewhat different than the MRE's that American cavers carried, in terms of the menu choices. But I must assume that Hinterland chose "MRE" over "IMP" for the game, because most Muricans would only think of the mythical, paranormal creature (imps). Either way, they are basically the same. MRE's were intended as Emergency rations, for surviving on for 30 days or less. But for the sake of game reality, they do make the most sense for long term survival suppliments to other foods found or harvested in the wilds.
A simple Google Search and I found this information on Canadian IMP's:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Individual_Meal_Pack
The drink mixes... you can simply consume them for the calories they give, but I'll be honest, it was not "pleasant". Like swimmers consuming packets of Jello before competitions, to get the sugar and calories without the added weight of the water. And downing a dry packet of instant coffee... that stuck with you. You really wanted water to wash it down. Which we have unlimited supplies of in the game. BTW, the packets of dry Tang mix were the WORST. But they gave a sugar and electrolyte boost. A very Tangy one. >.<
Lol! Most welcome. And thinking about it more, I recall those crazy Canadians mixing the drink mix packets in with their wet foods. Spaghetti... with Tang mixed in. I could never bring myself to do that. xD
Glorious MIX!
(Soylent being a modern product, not the Soylent Green from the old movie).
That's one way to cause the Italian expedition members to go on a murderous rampage.
There's a whole ration trading economy that springs up with ration packs whenever militaries from other countries spend time around eachother (Joint exercises, UN functions, deployment). Apparently the French ration packs are pretty much the best.
