Music to listen to while playing?
I like the in-game music but it gets old after a while. Anybody have alternate music that seem to fit the game well? I have found that the ambient Skyrim music fits well

I usually listen music while playing games but TLD is the only one I've ever played exclusively with headphones without any music. Countless times I've been saved by hearing those footsteps in the snow across the hill knowing there's a wolf. Hearing crows warning me there's a bear nearby. Metal and wood twisting sounds in the fog lead me to the safety also quite a few times.

But I do occasionally listen (off game) Agnes Obel. I don't know why exactly but her music reminds me of TLD. I think Hinterland used some of her work in one of their trailers maybe? Can't remember.

I also never listen to music while playing TLD. Being able to hear the sounds around me is what keeps Astrid alive. I'll constantly stop and just listen for danger.

You are correct, Agnes Obel's song "The Curse" was used in one of the TLD trailers. I'd never heard of her before the trailer and now I love her. I thought "The Curse" was absolutely perfect for this game. I posted the trailer on my FB and even now, it still gives me the cold chills.... in a good way. ;)

Not really the responses I was looking for. So do you guys also turn the in-game music off?

I don't listen to any particular music, just listen to whatever I feel like at the moment. Whether it's old songs from 30 years ago I haven't heard in ages, or if it's simple ambient music like you listed above. I like most types of music, so what ever I feel like most of the time. Of course, sometimes I'll just listen to the good ol' music from The Long Dark. It's a good ambient tune. I bought the soundtrack, and sometimes I'll just let it play on loop for a while. The music in this game really fits well, and sometimes I play this game to relax, and the in-game music is great.

I turn in game music off, and play silently. It helps the game really grab me.

If I listen to something it's usually shoegaze or dream pop/electronic because it doesn't really distract me. The Sorry Shop, Baths, Blithe Field, Sun Glitters, Vanera 4, Whirr, etc are bands that I can set to low and play without it taking away from the experience.

I had iTunes playing a shuffle of all my Sonic Youth. Seemed ok.

No, I don't turn off the in-game music. I love the music, but it does get in the way sometimes. And so does the game sounds, like the wind. Just yesterday, the wind was blowing like crazy as I was cresting a hill and needed to be able to listen for footsteps. I just deal with it. I play the way Hinterland intended.

If you like listening to music while playing, then just listen to whatever you have a craving for on that day. There's no right or wrong music for TLD.

I haven't listened to anything while playing this game, other than the soundtrack, but a few things come to mind that I might try: Some Gordon Lightfoot, maybe "The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald." Or something by Neil Young (both of these artists are Canadian, too, so there's that.)

As far as instrumental stuff, maybe a suspenseful soundtrack, like the one from M. Night Shyamalan's "The Village."

None. I play the game without music for full immersion.

All electricity is supposed to be gone, so one can't even use an mp3 player since the battery is, in all likelihood, dead. Which means no music, period.

I like ingame music - it is really nice. More could be added - I wish they add some option to find old discs you could listen to for ex. during crafting in your base :)

Beauty Never Fades by Junkie XL Feat. Saffron
the acoustic Loop Pedal Cover of Awolnation's "Sail"

Something ambient, dark and cold :)
Biosphere, especially the Insomnia soundtrack.
Brian Eno's Apollo goes really well with TLD.
Dead Can Dance.

I much prefer the ambient sounds of the wind and snow, and the beautiful in-game music. Listening to something else would really break the immersion for me.
