But I do occasionally listen (off game) Agnes Obel. I don't know why exactly but her music reminds me of TLD. I think Hinterland used some of her work in one of their trailers maybe? Can't remember.
You are correct, Agnes Obel's song "The Curse" was used in one of the TLD trailers. I'd never heard of her before the trailer and now I love her. I thought "The Curse" was absolutely perfect for this game. I posted the trailer on my FB and even now, it still gives me the cold chills.... in a good way. ;)
If I listen to something it's usually shoegaze or dream pop/electronic because it doesn't really distract me. The Sorry Shop, Baths, Blithe Field, Sun Glitters, Vanera 4, Whirr, etc are bands that I can set to low and play without it taking away from the experience.
If you like listening to music while playing, then just listen to whatever you have a craving for on that day. There's no right or wrong music for TLD.
You're welcome!
As far as instrumental stuff, maybe a suspenseful soundtrack, like the one from M. Night Shyamalan's "The Village."
All electricity is supposed to be gone, so one can't even use an mp3 player since the battery is, in all likelihood, dead. Which means no music, period.
Silence of the Lambs movie soundtrack (cooking/sewing music!)
Alice In Chains - Heaven Beside You
Help I'm Alive by Metric (acoustic version)
Rooster by Alice In Chains
I'm Alright by Kenny Loggins (Caddyshack version)
One Week by Bare Naked Ladies (working on a TLD parody written to this)
EVE Online 10 Years. Anniversary Symphony
Constantine movie soundtrack (Meet John Constantine, John's Solitude, Passive, end credits)
Beauty Never Fades by Junkie XL Feat. Saffron
the acoustic Loop Pedal Cover of Awolnation's "Sail"
Highwayman by The Highwaymen (no really, cannot explain why this one works so well)
Theology/Civilization from Conan the Barbarian movie soundtrack (1982 not 2011)
Rocket Ship BY Kathy McCarty (Z3D Rocket Remix, cannot explain why)
Dead & Gone by T.I. Feat. Justin Timberlake (instrumental version w/hook and outro)
Oblivion movie soundtrack (just most of the first 3rd honestly)
Lord of the Rings | Misty Mountains Music & Ambience (dwarves only, please)
Biosphere, especially the Insomnia soundtrack.
Brian Eno's Apollo goes really well with TLD.
Dead Can Dance.
