And ig you are face first into a balck rock formation of trww trunk or cave entrance or the like... you may see only blackness. If you have a lantern,m light it for a few seonds to get your bearnings, or start a small campfire and light a stick brand. Press [Tab] to see how many hours of darkness are left. If there is ??? instead of hours, it means you can;t tell because the stars and Moon are obscured.
They didn;t forget the Moon hun. But if you are used to light pollution IRL, you may not realize that a New Moon, with all electricity out and no other lights, expecially if it is a heavily cluded sky... can be ptich balck out here in the country, in the woods. Lol!
You'll get used to it in game, eventually. But it is really creepy and confusing to be in pitch blackness no matter what. :)
I have 3 monitors and I've seen the game be unrealistically bright in one screen, but if I move it to another, it's suddenly unplayably dark. The setting exists so that you can accomodate your own display's idiosyncrasies.
I'm a city boy, but I've gone camping a couple of times in the total wilderness without moon and with cloudy sky and I wasn't able to see anything 2 feet infront of me. In fact, not even my finger in front of my nose.
This game nails that feeling pretty well.
