Or it could simply be that the island is much larger and that those distant mountains we see simply represent a general out of bounds area just as the open sea does. As is, we have been exploring the more habitable parts of the island...
I really don;t see Hinterland taking the time to hand-craft each region map, them just duplicating them to take up space. Each region has its own features, its own "special" conditions. I think we may see a new region or 2 that feel similar to others but i think Hinterland will try to make any new regions as unique as possible.
Player-made maps, if/when we get modding support, will b interesting to see. How well can we dream up new spaces, and build them? And have them actually work?
As for region ideas, there are still aplenty I think, that can be done. I haven't played it much, but the little that I have of Hush River Valley wasn't quite what I expected it to be. I still think there is potential for a heavily forested region that is relatively flat, but truly just dense trees as far as the eye can see.
And it may break immersiveness or require a stretch of belief, since the location of GBI seems to be "BC ish", but an arctic tundra environment and a boreal taiga environment would do nicely, maybe a far northern part of the island? Again, depends on how big the island actually is and how far we may expect our character to travel on it... or if anyone is crazy enough to travel more north in a winter apocalypse...
Or just sprint from DP Lighthouse to BR Lodge...think there's no climbing for that.
I mean, experince mode and vanilla settings for fatigue onset and recovery rates, clothing, weather, experience mode and ability to path directly with wolves, bears and moose to deal with, loot pools and shelter availability (for rest and looting)... so many variables that make a definitive answer almost impossible.
But... have fun testing it in all 4 modes, and let us know how it goes? :D
Certainly less than the number of rosehips/painkillers I have used finding ciarns! lol
