Do choices actually matter? (SPOILERS)
Like, I helped the Grey Mother, I helped Jeremiah, I didn't loot the gas station, I didn't steal the ammo from the supplies in the lake, etc. Do all these choices matter? Will this affect me somehow in the future episodes? I would love to get an answer from the devs about this. I love to be a good person, but I would like to see the npcs react to my good deeds, help me in the future, etc.

I know that. He gave me something. A really good cloth, if I remember well. Still, I'm wondering if things like that, will affect the story somehow in the future.

None of us ehre know, and Hinterland does not like to give potential spoilers for upcoming content, in Survival or Wintermute. So... I doubt they are going to tell you much, if they do respond.

For now, doing the "good things", the fetch quests so many people hate, does benefit you by gaining you Trust with NPC's, and after reaching certain levels of Trust, you get new blueprints unlocked. Which helps now. No idea how much of a difference not unlocking all blueprints might have.

Dev dairy is coming soon. Taking a bit longer than Raphael anticipated, it seems. But it'll be coming soon. And he will tell us as much as he is willing to and comfortable with revealing , about the future Wintermute Episodes, and possible new stuff in Surivival Mode. Just a little more patience.

I'm not asking them to give me details, just asking them to tell me if choices will actually matter in the future or not. :P While I like being good, I expect the npcs to be thankful, praise me, help me in the future, etc. :P

I am not disagreeing with you. Personally, when Wintermute first released, and I did my first full playthrough on XBone, I was disappointed in how little I felt like my choices mattered,. I had been hoping for more moral dilemma, more branching paths based on choices I made. Not just getting or not getting blueprints and the flare gun.

But also think of it like this- what "matters" to you may differ from what I feel "matters" to me, which may differ from what "matters" to another person, and none of us may have the same idea of what "matters" and how much weight it has compared to what the devs feel "matters" in the context of the story they are telling. Hard to make a few hundred thousand player happy, when all of us may have different ideas about what is a spoiler, what is important to have in the game, and what we individually think "matters" or "doesn't matter".

Hinterland had some very harsh criticisms, some deserved, some not deserved, over marketing/PR mistakes in the past, over what they did or did not tell us, over the reactionns f long time sandbox/Survival Mode players, who did not like Wintermute when it launched. There were some really ugly times here, that you may not have been around to see. Or that ay not have seemed so ugly to you compared to the forums of some of the other games you play. Things are generally fairly civil, peaceful, and quieter, more laughs and story sharing here, compared to the cs:go forums. Nothing personal, but if those forums, and the lack of direct dev contact from Valve there, and the goodly amount of toxicitiy that is accepted there seems "normal", you may not understand the hestiancey of really Candaian devs, o to reveal to much or not enough, or to say something that gets thrown back in their faces, with ire and spite, a week or month down the line, if they say they are trying to do x y and z, and something happens that changes that. It's happened before. It was not pretty. I don't think Raph wants to have it happen again. To the studio and their employees, or to us, the community here.

Just trying to tell you not to expect too much. You are less likely to be disappointed or feel too salty that way.

Given that you can start a fresh episode 2, I'm gonna say zero history is carried over between episodes. Because then there would have to be three states: I robbed the store, I didn't rob the store, I never saw the store because I started on episode 2.

Unless that's one of the things they are trying to change...

I agree it is disappointing. From the first story mode trailer, I thought that you would need to make increidbly difficult decisions, like, help a lost child by finding them food and finding their way home at considerable condition loss to yourself, or killing the child and stealing their supplies. Things like that. I didn't think it would be so lame as 'collect stuff' and if you don't you can't move on anyway so you have to. Imagine if you could kills Grey Mother in her sleep, steal her rifle...idk, but I would love there to be lots of moral dilemmas and lots of branching storylines depending on what you did...

I honestly thought the gas station choice was baffling as to how it was a "choice." You loot seemingly abandoned places all the time in this game, and unless you see its owner deceased nearby, there is always the chance they could return. What makes the gas station different, apart from Grey Mother making that explicit?

Because I'm a meta-gamer and saw that it might have some bearing, I didn't, and perhaps it wasn't inconvenient to me because I spent enough time in Sandbox that I had a good sense of how to scavenge everything for Grey Mother. But if you went into this game hoping for the difficult moral decisions they advertised, they were nowhere to be found.

My thought was not so much different endings, but yeah, some branches. Same final destination, perhaps, but more than one way to get there. Not sure how to explain what I mean, but I will try...

Same final destination- I am going to go see my mother. Different ways to get there- I can take the 6 lane highway, I can avoid highway traffic and take the city streets and run through the suburbs, or I can take the long way, the more "scenic" 2 lane "country" roads. I am still going to end up at Mom's house, but the experience I have getting there will be different depending on which route I choose to take.
