Opinion of bearskin and wolfskin coats
What is your thoughts on these coats? As far as warmth they are wonderful and I am a big fan of the wolfskin because it is warm and I can repair easily. Made the bearskin coat for the first time as soon as I step out of the Quonsett a wolf is upon me. I have had only 3 or 4 wolves run off scared and 25 who were not and wanted to tussle. Guess they did not get the memo to back off.Still love this game regardless!

i go for wolf skin for weight to warmth ratio. and the fear bonus from wolfs is a nice mechanic. i use my bear skin for a better sleeping bag and moose for satchel. repairs are much more feasable with the wolf skin coat also. as they are easy to aquire additional skins.

And then you better motor because the wolves yipping is on a timer. Don't tarry unless you decide its time to hunt.
This. When I was much newer to the game I stood there and gloated. The wolf then realised he was a wolf, came back and tore me a new one. I was not laughing after that. :')
Both are useless if you can find two better quality non-crafted options and are comfortable with baiting and killing wolves with ease. Bear is always useless given its weight and the amount of protection it offers is overkill unless you plan on wrestling things in melee.

So you are saying yes that the wolfskin coat helps scare away wolves? What difficulty are you playing on and how can I do the same? O r am I being trolled?

I've played making and wearing the wolfskin coat on Stalker and Voyager and each time there is a definite advantage to wearing it. More than half of the time the wolf runs up and then makes the same yipping sound like when you life a fire and they run away. It's supposed to be a random effect from the coat. Sometimes it scares them off but sometimes it doesn't.

(no trolling - this has been my experience)
You and I must be doing something different, Because I would love to scare wolves 33% of the time ( the % I heard the coat gives to frighten Lobo) But I am only getting 6-10% results. Do carry any uncooked meat or fresh guts with you?
It seems that scaring off of wolves while wearing the coat is random, because it doesn't seem to matter if I have guts or meat (cooked or uncooked) on me.

I know for sure that there is value in the wolfskin coat. I didn't know that 33% percentage but many times (specifically in Desolation Point) I was about to be jumped and was out of options and the wolf ran off yipping. I realized it was the coat. I kept forgetting I was wearing it until an incident like that.

I had read somewhere 50% for bearskin and wolfskin was 33%

I think the wolfskin coat is a good idea early into mid-game because it's better than most coats you find early game but when you find an Expadition parka, I usually switch to a Windbreaker and Exparka. Bearskin however I feel is very useless. It's very warm yes, but also nine pounds! You could wear a combination of other coats that comes to maybe just below the warmth of the bear. Now in interloper, I say the bearskin coat is worth it because in this gamemode, the best coat you can find I beieve is a mariner's pea coat. (I think that's what I heard? maybe the best was Military or Mackinaw)

not sure if you know how the game works, but winbreaker+exparka is completely useless, it's straight up worse than exparka alone

Old thread, I know, but I spook wolves in my bearskin all the time on Interloper. And I almost always survive with just some damage to my hat when they do spook me. Of course, not carrying wolfbait anymore means I spook them more than fight them now.
2 bear coats are better than 1 :D That is what i use on my loper run
Double bear coats for life. The wolf coat is a waste of whetstones.

I have honestly never considered 2 bear coats on Stalker and below. Mainly because, well, it generally isn;t that cold t make it absolutely neccessary, but more due to the wieght. Sprint is a life-saver on Stalker.

How does 2 bear coats affect sprint and climbing, even overall carry capacity? And if it is worth it on Interloper, do you think it would be worth it on Stalker, if it seriously limited sprinting?
There's zero reason to craft any clothes in the balmy land of gauntlets, snowpants, expedition parkas, balaclavas, and mukluks.

Both hold up well in blizzards and keep you really warm. I'd go with the wolf because it's easier to get materials for repair.

Depends on how you want to play. If you want to do a lot of melees with wolves, you will be better off wearing crafted clothing in the long run. So you can reduce the amount of cloth you need for bandages and repairs and save cloth for repairing headgear.
