Anything that is at zero condition will despawn from the world if it is transferred to a container unless it has harvest value (i.e., a clothing item will not disappear when placed in the container since you can harvest it for cloth; however, a granola bar will).
The only things that respawn in the world are wildlife, coal, sticks, branches, and most limbs. Beachcombing along the transition from ice to open water will sometimes yield stuff, but very limited.

So what you're saying is that I better not pick up any food unless I really need it at the moment in order to prevent it from starting spoiling?
Everything starts spoiling, even on another map that you've never been to. If you stay in one place long enough, everything could potentially be spoiled to zero by the time you transition to another zone.
Spoil timer starting when you pick something up the first time was how it used to work. Not anymore.
