where to get a new knife?

I have found mine next to bodies out in the snow, hunter blinds, and in major locations (dam, camp office, lookout towers)

Cant find a new knife and dont know how to craft one.

I’d recommend Bass Pro or Cabela’s, they both have a pretty nice selection.

Barring that, I’d just search everywhere XD Mystery Lake and Milton probably have plenty, or you could always make your own at the forge in DP or FM.

*edit* to craft one you’ll need the heavy hammer, coal, and scrap metal & cloth. You then have to make the journey to a forge, either in Desolation Point of Forlorn Muskeg.

Hard to say as you dont specify what mod of game you play (story, sandbox..) and or where you are (whcih area).

generally only 100% is to craft new one -forge is at Forlong Musket which is area next to Mystery Lake and you visit it in Story mode too.

Otherwise it is bit random(though you can be spoiled by some spots where tools like knife possibly spawn) - but possibly sotrymode has some fixed locations.

I would also highlight you should not let your tools drop to ruined status as you can find and use whetstone for improve its condition.

And as last note - you can well survive without knife or hatchet (or both). Particularly in story mode where you can pretty much ignore lot of activities like harvesting animals or hunt. In sandbox on higher difficulties it is part of challenge too.

Keep looking around the map, there's probably a few hunting knives hidden around. Otherwise, you'll just have to rely on your hands to harvest carcasses, which isn't that big of a deal in story mode. Also, keep an eye out for whetstones, so you can sharpen your axe before it breaks.

The Bass Pro and Cabela’s part was joke :P just in case you haven’t heard of them before, they’re pretty big outdoorsy stores IRL, or at least in the US.
