2. No. Sometimes 1 kg for a long hike.
In the end I feel it is worth the challenge to maintain it from D1. Cat-tails. Search thoroughly for candy bars and sodas. Consume hot teas for travel and a those extra cals...don't waste the 100 cals from a reishi so don't always keep your meter maxed out. Leave room to eat the occassional dog food drop or whatever.
Once you're actively hunting/basing there's no reason NOT to be Well-Fed, but it won't hurt you if you lose it while setting up in a new area and waiting to bag your first deer or whatever.
I also very rarely sleep at same place for 2 consecutive nights. So I never carry meat with me. I only have cattails. I always eat to be full and leave all meat right there on the floor.. Because I'll be back at that place maybe 100-200 days later.
Also, I don't carry meat with me unless I am transporting raw meat back to my base. I do carry a handful of cattails, though.
