Accessory Slots
Recently I gave a newer player some advice regarding the "reversed" slots for the head (i.e., outer clothing goes in the boxes farthest from the character graphic; headgear goes in the slot closest to the character graphic).

I also told them that the accessory slot is the same. However, am I mistaken?

I read a post some time ago recommending that you place your moose satchel in the "exterior" slot and it would then take the brunt of punishment while providing some protection for your ear-wraps. I now do so; I keep the satchel in the left box closest to my character model.

Today I had a misunderstanding with Mr. Wolf; he was very nasty and destroyed my ear-wraps, while doing no damage whatsoever to my satchel.

Obviously I will reverse the order of these items for a future test (assuming I ever find another ear-warp :steamfacepalm:).

Does anybody know for sure?

I don't have any facts, but my assumption has always been that accessories don't have layers. Why would they? How would a satchel slung over your shoulder effect an earwrap on your head in any way?
Let us know how your experiment goes.

Lenny I'm right there with you. I've forgotten what the answer is. My veteran Loper is pretty boring for me right now, so I'll go play him and hope for wet weather, see what gets wet first....

Fairly certain they do have layers. Wearing two ear wraps, I believe that one will take the brunt of the weather by getting wet/freezing before the other one does.

Accessory slot is not reversed.

This is definitely confirmed. I just met Mr. Wolf again.

I had reversed my items so that my earwraps are now on the left (closest to my character) and the satchel is on the right. The satchel took a 16% hit and my earwraps took a 2% hit.

I would trust a test using 2 sets of earwraps, and seeing which gets wet first. Satchel is made of tough, durable Moose hide, . Earwraps are made of knitted wool. I would expect the cloth/knitted item to take more damage, since it is made a much "flimsier" material. The damage received may be calculated differently based on the material the item is made from, and the armor rating of that item.

Now, I just need to find 2 pairs of earwraps and have them in the same condition... hahahaha. Nice dream. I'll work on it. See you in 2 years.

Wait, what??? You don't trust the results?

Test 1: A wolf attacked me with satchel in left slot and earwraps in right. Both nearly 100% condition. Fight ensues, I win, earwraps destroyed and satchel unscathed at 98%.

Test 2: A wolf attacked me with satchel in right slot and earwraps in left. Both nearly 100% condition. Fight ensues, I win, earwraps unscathed at 98% condition and satchel takes 16% hit.

How is that the least bit open to interpretation?

Because you are not using 2 of the same items, with the same stats... same item, same condition %, same waterproof rating, same armor rating, same... everything. Then the values become comparable, because they are using the same algorithm to calculate damage, with the only exception being a modifier used based on item slot position.

That is how it is more than the least bit open to interpretation. You did a test, that was not in the least bit scientific. Nothing personal Lenny. Use testing methods that SW and game devs would use to test, the same way. 2 equal items, with a modifier applied to one of them (in this case a modifier applied to the slot location). The damage dealt by a wolf during a struggle is RNG based most likely. Tell me you have not faced wolves that you felt were stronger or weaker than another?

Good God...sometimes you are really too much...

*shrugs*
I am looking for a truly scientific test, not one based on assumptions. For my own satisfaction. If you are satisfied with your test results, that's fine. Sorry if it upsets you that I am not.

A satchel correctly worn on outer layer protects ear wraps. It has no stats but satchel is extremely durable
