Story mode and survival mode have a few differences...You can cross Narrow Bridge in survival for sure.

If you are there before completing chapter 1, you will not be able to cross the bridge.
Story Mode- just follow what the story tells you to do, and finish chapter 1, Then you can go back in chapter 2 and see where the bridge leads you to.
This isn't Survival mode, where you can do whatever you want, whenever you want to. To progress through the region and complete the story and the episode, you need to follow the story.

Yes, in Episode 4 it seems that we have less freedom to roam around and do side quests out of order, as well as exploring the whole region without completing main quests. It is more strict on making follow the story path without straying.
