Get healed in case you get in fight, don't wear anything stinky. Bad weather can make them go away sometimes, although i do remember getting attacked in storm. Get out while crouching and check where they are and find a way where you have more distance between you and them. Move crouching which is slow and pain in ass but works. If youre going back to town you might move to that clearing in front of gas station, there are deer there. You wanna put some dear or rabbits between you and wolfs.
Also what works and im not sure if this depends on difficulty (im on stalker and works for me), if wolf begins to follow me and I walk normally they don't attack for quite a while if you don't aggro them by pulling weapon on them. Just let em trail till you reach your destination, I think you have at least a minute before they attack. Just let them behind you, if they get too close they attack.
Let us know how it goes!
I'm not super-far in or anything, so even if I die it's not a big deal, but that doesn't mean I shouldn't ask for what strategies other people have come up with ^.^
2. You can try leaving via the front door, and if that doesn't work out; you can always sprint back inside and then try the back door instead.
3. You can also try ducking into nearby cars or houses if you get spotted.
4. If you haven't been spotted yet and you're crouching, you can try throwing stones which is pretty effective at distracting wolves. Kinda like Alluring Skulls in Dark Souls, if you know what I mean.
5. You can also try lighting a torch/flare as a last resort. Don't throw the torch; just run away with the torch lit and you should probably be fine.
If so, there is a great “dead zone” in the front of the station between the front door and the gas pumps. Crouch out the front door and light a fire over to the right next to the car. It is pretty well shielded there.
As long as you are in that small area under the canopy, they will not sense you. You can step out, they will sense you and come your way, but you can step back under the canopy and they will lose their lock on you. You can use this strategically to bring them close and then kite them with arrows. Kill ‘em all.
IMHO nothing makes this game easier and frees your options up more than learning to use the bow/arrow effectively according to animal behavior (I don't even pickup guns, ammo or cleaning kits anymore).
I am also only playing on the second difficulty, so I'd guess the wolves would probably be leery of sticking around too much. Are you immune to animals entirely in vehicles, because if so I could see myself hopping into one of the nearby cars and then just watching them and waiting until I saw them leave.
Well, that particular place is a know wolf extravaganza in all difficulty levels. We've all been there -"wow, what a nice place to make a base", and done that -"dang, I'll never be able to leave or come back again with these many wolves".
Playing Loper, I use Quonset as a fast food joint. Pull the canines in the area one by one, wait for the charge, and land an arrow in the face when it's as close as you can stand it. Harvest the meat, make burgers inside, and leave next morning.
I'll probably end up moving base to the Trappers Cabin, not for any in-depth reason, more the fact that I think it's a beautiful home ^.^
