recover save when you die?

is there a way to recover your save when you die with third party softwares? Or how does it remove your file?

You would have to manually back up your save game files and manually restore one.

You gotta go to the save location of Hinterland studios in ur app data folder to copy and paste ur save.

As far as I heard, in survival mode, the save game file is deleted upon the character's death. If a player does not take proactive steps prior to dying, in this case to make a copy of the save game in a separate location, that save game is gone.

On my PC the save game folder would be at:
C:\Users\Owner\AppData\Local\Hinterland\TheLongDark
of course, YMMV.

i was thiking about this actually to recover deleted files. I had this problem before with another game i accidently deleted the save and also empty my bin so it was completely gone and i used a software to fish back the completely deleted save, thought it might be possible with TLD? Depending on how they delete the files?

There is a mod for this that gives you quick save and quick load. You can also make save files that don't delete on death.

that explains why I can't find my most recent save anymore. hell, why don't they go TRUE hardcore and disable saving altogether! you want to play a character that lasts 40 days game time? keep the game in maximized FULLSCREEN for 40 days IRL time, b*!@h

I guess it's better to start backing up save file in case death occurs in unfair conditions when game decides to spawn a bear in my face or something like that

First question- why are you necroing a thread that is a year and a half old just to scream into the void?
Second question- why did you buy a game that very clearly states in the game description on its store page that was permadeath in Survival Mode if you don;t enjoy permadeath or know how to make manual backups of your save(s) ? It's not like the devs trick you into buying the game, and then after you play it for a few hours throw a "Surprise mofo- the game is permadeath and you die forever!". It is very clearly advertised as a permadeath game in big bold letters on the store page.

i totally forgot it was perma death on survival - i bought the game years ago and started playing again recently. currently i only play survival, my first outing 97 days died - tried to load back in then remembered. it was a tough moment of realisation, but then i understood why i loved this game in the first place.
