Faithful cartographer - mystery lake: lookout
I need help figuring out where to survey this location. I've discovered it, and mapped all around it, but can't get it to register as a surveyed location or appear on the map. This is the lookout at the edge of the map, behind the logging area. I've gone up to the highest points and tried mapping, but it still doesn't show up. What am I missing?

Edit: This is not either of the lookouts with towers. This lookout oversees the towers in the distance.

I believe you are looking for area above the clear cut - across a pathway to ruined lookout tower, not the trailers. It triggers really high up though

I know which lookout you're referring to, and it's not that one. It's on the other side of clearcut. waay on the edge, up the hills behind the trees.

You may be talking about the high peak with the cave at the top that is adjacent to the lake and near the Camp Office? If that's the case, it's called "Lake Overlook," and to access it, start out from the Camp Office facing toward the Lake Cabins. The Lake Overlook will be off to your left. Follow that coastline on your left around until you reach the river, and head up the river like you were going to Carter Hydro Dam, while keeping an eye on the left shoreline. You'll reach a spot where there's a cliff face with a rope climb, set back a bit from the river. If you reach the big bend in the river, you've gone too far.

Climb the rope, and you'll reach a clearing with another rope climb up, and at the top of that, you'll be at the Lake Overlook. It's a bit rough on your fatigue, so be sure you're well-rested, watch out for good weather, maybe bring some coffee, because there's no cover on that intermediate clearing. Once you reach the summit, though, there's a nice deep cave with some goodies in it, and usually a deer carcass and some rabbits.

That's not the one, unfortunately. The location is just called "Lookout". At the very top left corner up the hill behind clearcut is a lookout. The location triggers, but it won't map out. I've had a similar problem with the plane crash in milton.

Ohhhh, you're talking about the space up the hill in the corner where there are a couple possible prepper caches and usually some birch and maple saplings. Yeah, I've mapped that spot a few times, and the trigger point can be a bit weird, but I've never had too much trouble with it before by just walking up the "path" and as soon as the location name appears, stopping and mapping it. I haven't tried it since the December update, so maybe something to do with that?

Yeah this location gives me troubles too, as well as the coal mines. I've never figured out a "quick fix" for it, other than playing russian roulette and spamming charcoal in random places to eventually get it.

Yeah, I've tried basically every possible angle. I've tried walking up until the location name shows up and mapped immediately. Gone up to the highest point, gone to the left, the right. Used around 10-15 charcoal and never got it..

oh my god.. it seems like the lookout isn't even on the list of required locations for the achievement. And here I have spent so much time and many charcoal just to find this out through the wiki. boo. Well, thanks for all the help on this! I still appreciated it.

Yeah, I know. I guess I ruled that out as an option. Weirdly enough I felt like that was cheating, but not like looking stuff up on wiki was cheating?? :lunar2019laughingpig:
