Line up so that the rabbit is hopping directly away from you on smooth terrain. I found that the rock usually contacted after a bounce or two.
I've just tried to see how far I could throw, and how accurately (not at all it seems...can hardly hit them when they are close range too...). Spent many days and rabbit dinners that came up short.
Went out one morning, saw one rabbit, shots off the bow: finally hit it but short again. I decided it wasn't dinner time, and he was the only one around, so I let the bugger go. He runs off and I start chucking more rocks at him, expecting nothing when, bam! Clocked him apparently I would assume at likely the minimum range neccesary and I got the achievement. I ran toward him again, but he recovered, shook it off, and ran away. I gave chase again halfway across the map it seems and clocked him again closer range, and snapped its neck. Ripped him apart with my bare hands back at the lookout (ML) and offered him up as a sacrifice to the gods for blessing me with luck.

Love this. Best use of resources/time I've yet seen.
b/c sometimes I can't get to it before it recovers

update: I did get my Stone Age Sniper - by standing on the big rock (behind MT church) and tossing stones over at the bunnies on the far edge of the pond. *boink !*
For me, the guiding spot was the first knuckle of my thumb.

So, if you throw stones to a rabbit and drive it off, you chase it, positioning yourself between their zone and them. Suddenly they come towards you, and those are the easiest throws, because of the stone bouncing.
Zone ........ You ------> Stone Bouncing <---- Target.
Conversely, Bow and Rifle Hunting is better from a flank. Because if you are "perfect parallel" to the target, the guessed distance maintains itself. And the animal shows the most part of its body to you. You only have to follow with your aim and point a little bit forward (due to the target movement). That's instinct and practice.
