Stone Age Sniper achivement
the award seems pretty simple. stun a rabbit with a rock from over 25 meters. (80 feet) but, I've been trying to do this for half a game day and I've only stunned the rabbits that get within 30 feet of me. can anyone here share their experience of how they got the achivement and any tips on how to get it?

Think "Rabbit Bowling"...

Line up so that the rabbit is hopping directly away from you on smooth terrain. I found that the rock usually contacted after a bounce or two.

I did it in story mode, almost at the start. There's and area with tons of rabbits and stones. I picked all the rocks and started throwing them at the rabbits, and got the achievement.
Just got mine.... been trying to get this since forever.... my current run I've just stockpiled rocks (for other uses as well!) The hard part is gauging how far away the rabbit is, then seemingly spamming rocks at it...

I've just tried to see how far I could throw, and how accurately (not at all it seems...can hardly hit them when they are close range too...). Spent many days and rabbit dinners that came up short.

Went out one morning, saw one rabbit, shots off the bow: finally hit it but short again. I decided it wasn't dinner time, and he was the only one around, so I let the bugger go. He runs off and I start chucking more rocks at him, expecting nothing when, bam! Clocked him apparently I would assume at likely the minimum range neccesary and I got the achievement. I ran toward him again, but he recovered, shook it off, and ran away. I gave chase again halfway across the map it seems and clocked him again closer range, and snapped its neck. Ripped him apart with my bare hands back at the lookout (ML) and offered him up as a sacrifice to the gods for blessing me with luck.

Hate to say it, but it's more about "lucky" than "good." I got it in DP, hiding up on the hill above the stone church. It really does come down to just making the right estimate at the right time. You just need somewhere where you can get high enough above the bunnies at the right distance, and then get lucky.

I got it in wintermute when it tells you about using stones on rabbit. I got extremely lucky doing it there but I'm unable to do it again.

The stone aiming is pretty reliable, so it's just adjusting the height really. Annoyingly I got a super long hit on a rabbit soon after the system was put in, but before the achievement was out. Haven't managed to do it again since :(

Love this. Best use of resources/time I've yet seen. :UnholyEye:

So, we just need to *stun* the bunny, but we don't have to kill it?... :bullseye_arrow:
b/c sometimes I can't get to it before it recovers :steamfacepalm:

update: I did get my Stone Age Sniper - by standing on the big rock (behind MT church) and tossing stones over at the bunnies on the far edge of the pond. *boink !*

Been doing lots of trial and error myself before I got a trick, and eventually got the achievement. Try to repeatedly aim at a point (eg. another stone) and each time go few steps back until you find a spot on your hand where you know the rock will hit at that particular distance. Then it's just easy, wait for a bunny to get to that spot at that distance and then :oneshotonekill:.

For me, the guiding spot was the first knuckle of my thumb. :happymeat:

Went to MT to secluded spot near the plane crash and a cave killed the only wolf so did not have to worry about any interference. picked a dozen rocks and spent the whole day. Throwing and picking up stones. The great thing thing is you just have to hit the rabbit not run over pick it up and kill it.

I got mine in Mountain Town Basin - a lovely big stretch of ice near Hermit's Cabin - I just lined up the rabbits and let fly with the stones. It took half a dozen tries then I got lucky - I too think it's luck that is required more than skill. I tried that place near the plane crash but found that many rabbits distracting and the terrain was lumpy/rocky with tuffs of long grass, so I went to the basin instead. :steamhappy:

I'm not entirely sure how / why this got revived, but just letting y'all know this thread is nearly a year old and I got the achivement soon after I posted this thread. xD Feel free to post, but I'm unsubscribing to this thread. :)

After reading this discussion, I decided to go after the Stone Age Sniper achievement too. After some hours of trying, I finally nailed it. Decided to do what another poster did:

I just followed the ancient principle of using a lot of ammo to overcome a problem.

Animals have a routine (a zone of movement), if you scare them out of that zone, they start running. But finally they end coming back to their "zone-square".

So, if you throw stones to a rabbit and drive it off, you chase it, positioning yourself between their zone and them. Suddenly they come towards you, and those are the easiest throws, because of the stone bouncing.

Zone ........ You ------> Stone Bouncing <---- Target.

Conversely, Bow and Rifle Hunting is better from a flank. Because if you are "perfect parallel" to the target, the guessed distance maintains itself. And the animal shows the most part of its body to you. You only have to follow with your aim and point a little bit forward (due to the target movement). That's instinct and practice.
