The DANGER of rock climbing!
Do not make the mistake of pairing the state of having just as much inventory on you as you can carry without sprain risk, WITH you being at around 50% fatigue AND climbing a rope that requires you to rest on a ledge halfway up.

The combination of these 3 factors can quickly end your run and it can happen to anyone, even those with 100s of hours on their character.

Because what can happen is, once you have regained your breath on that ledge, your fatigue will still have drained to the point that it starts decreasing your inventory capacity, and then when you try to continue your climb, it wont let you interact with the rope due to being too fatigued. It wont even allow you to climb down.

At this point, it might sound feasible to sleep on the ledge for 1 hour or 2, but firstly, this can lead to you waking up in the middle of a blizzard and secondly, even if the weather cooperates, you dont regain a lot of fatigue this way, maybe you will go from 25% to 35% and then 45% but it wont guarantee the recovery of enough fatigue (remember, drinking tea only boosts condition bar recovery rate while sleeping but not fatigue recovery rate while sleeping)

...so the only option you have at this point is to drop more things on the ledge until you can finish your climb, or you will die. The only other options are drinking coffee (should have done this at the bottom, tho), or energy drink (rare) or emergency stim (best option IMO. the only other time i used it in the game is to run from a stalking bear if i dont have any bait on me)

Coffee is great for emergencies like this! :coffeeTLD:

Yes, it is always a good idea to rest up before climbing, and drink a little coffee first if you have it. If you do get stuck on a ledge while overburdened, you might need to drop some items and climb back down. You can come back for them later, but not if you are dead. :steammocking:

E-stims are also great for these spots, but they are extremely limited so use them wisely.

As a general rule, I try to have a fallback plan in case whatever I am about to attempt fails for some reason. If I need to climb back down, I will have a place nearby I can go rest up and rethink my situation.

true but you need just change your base setup. in all my days i can say i never got me this problem. the best place for a main base is for me the dam. you can reach all locations from there, ravine got a outside cave its warmer and nice there :P. so if you setup the dam as mainbase you can bring all the stuff to there. this means there is never a situation where you need to mule stuff up to a hill with a rope. this also means you can go down every way to the dam without a rope finally. atm i mule coal to ML from all locations so this works fine.

but yes if you setup the main base wrong? then you can do that to by bring stuff over the time up to a hill.

I got caught in that exact situation. Used an epi to boost my stats to finish the climb :D

It all comes down to planning your climbs. As long as your character is fully rested you can usually get up 1 normal rope and one "ledge" rope without acutually stopping at the ledge. If your character runs out of stamina bar, they can keep climbing just much slower, as long as there not dead tired they can push through, hence why coffee, the go energy drinks, or epis are a must for TWM.
