Challenge Modes are short Survival mode challenges, with a defined objective and a win/lose state, and the Challenge save is deleted one you either win or lose.
Survival Mode has no set endpoint. It is permadeath (Story mode is not), but you can play forever if you are able to survive forever. no endgame. (When you die in Survival Mode, your save is deleted, and you can start a new run, unless you know how to make a manual save backup to "cheat death".)
