Stuck in the mines..
So I was exploring Coastal Highway and I ran across the new mine? That's pretty dope. I expected a mine similar to the one connecting CH and PV. Oh boy, I was wrong. It was extremely small- but at the end there is an elevator? I was doubtful, but in the back of my mind I wondered if this elevator could be triggered by an aurora, as the elevator in Episode 2 Wintermute, in the dam. (Being clear, I haven't played Episode 3 of Wintermute yet, I'm not sure if this is a part of the story or not?) I had this thought and one night the Aurora came on. It was about 3 hours before sunrise, I though heck, I may as well give it a try. I'm living at that little house near the log sort, so I was pretty close. I grabbed my lantern and a can of fuel and went for the mines. To my surprise, the coolest thing happened. It said "Call elevator" and honestly this surprised me, considering the lack of interact-able things in Survival. Anyway, I went down and looted the mines and there was a ton of loot. two bedrolls, revolver, rifle, 20+ ammunition for each, (This is stalker loot levels I think) anyway.. Returning to the elevator I had a grave thought.. What if the aurora didn't stay on? It only took me maybe an hour to loot the whole mine, and it was still 2ish hours before sunrise.. Then a horror struck me. I wasn't able to call the elevator. I noticed the lights stopped flashing, the wires stopped buzzing... I was stuck..

A thought in the back of my mind wondered "Well maybe the game recognizes that I'm in the lower part of the mine, and the developers might be kind of enough to make the game have two auroras in a row in order for me to escape?" Boy, was I wrong.. I read a couple books I found down there, repaired some clothing with a couple pieces of cloth I found, just waiting for night.. Nothing. No aurora. I'm sitting around 1500 calories in the tank right now with a pack of beef jerky, can of beans & a can of tuna. I could start a fire in the fire barrel and boil water, so I should be okay on water for a few days.. But I'd say I could stay in the mine for another couple days before taking heavy damage from starvation..

So my question is.. Is there any way to escape this place? I've noticed auroras seem somewhat rare in my run, maybe 1 every ten days? I'm positive I couldn't survive 5+ days down here, so is there a back exit of some kind? Or do I just have to press my luck, waiting for an aurora? Also, I slept, so it saved the game down here.. It seems I'm really stuck for good.

I took tons of food when I went down there for that very reason. Best of luck to you. I think the aurora is more likely to trigger while you're down there.

Only problem with rip and run is that you are speeding through an area with electricity traps.....in my haste to beat the Auroras I killed my 460 day player by turning into the electrified water.Better to stockpile food in the elevator-easy to catch fish for that- and explore slowly and safely .

RIP Jiffy...should have done a little more reading before you went down there, bro.

Good luck!

Given what I had read it, when I went in to the Cinder Hills Mine aurora annex, I took ten days or more of food, plus a few liters of lantern fuel, a pile of sticks, and a bunch of coal as well as my usual gear. I figured 10 or 15 days max for the next aurora at worst. It was a lot of preparation which might be unnecessary if the aurora lasted long enough or popped up quickly. As it was, it took three or four days before the aurora came again.

I didn't go all the possible places that required me to go through the water, as I could still see sparks that made me think that even without the aurora the water was electrified. I didn't feel like trying it out.

Good luck.

Good point.

Rip and run does not mean taking risks to get one killed. But I can see how my words could be interpreted as so. What I mean is loot and keep looting (at a safe pace)- and do nothing else.

If you are on it, and catch the aurora as it begins and loot quickly (and yes- running where you can, if comfortable with doing so), you increase your chances of not being caught down there.
Yep-my problem was it was a late starting Aurora and I knew I had little time so I hurried to cover the whole complex and really thought I was running at the end of the clock so I sprinted back to the elevator and ran into the dark end of that pool . Usually my endings are when I do something stupid with bears.....

Thanks for the help everybody! I managed to escape, but barely..

My estimate was correct, I managed to stay in the mine three whole days and just barely escaped the mines with 13% condition.. I'm 100% unfamiliar with this mine shaft, and I have no idea how to navigate it. I'm pretty certain there's still loot down there, I didn't want to chance walking in the water, so I didn't go to some areas. After reading a book, (oddly enough, I could do in a pitch black mine shaft, but there's still enough light? xD) boiling water, repairing clothing & playing cards, I waited out an aurora and halfway through the fourth night it happened. I heard the lights buzzing, wires snapping, it was such a relief. Saved my day 178 run. :)

Honestly, I haven't had this much of a thrill in this game for a LONG time. From all my hours on this game, I usually know what to expect. I know wolf spawns, loot spawns, I know most of the regions like the back of my hand, I know my way around the game.. But this new mine shaft was a totally new addition and caught me 100% off guard, I was not at all expecting to be able to take the elevator down there, let alone get trapped for three days and live!

Congratulations ! :Likes:

* And also 'WTG! '- moments like this are exactly why its fun to NOT read spoilers, and NOT look at other people's maps. Best of luck on your run
