Safest place to hunt bears
in my opinion is the unnamed pond 5 mins north of the trapper's cabin at mystery lake. The cabin itself will serve as your base, you basically walk over a hill and then across a little clearing and then up another smaller hill and you are at the unnamed pond.

There is a hunter's blind there and a bear cave at the western side of the frozen lake. Just wait in the hunter's blind and the patrolling bear will usually patrol around the northern edge of the lake, giving you enough distance between you inside the hunters blind and the bear to allow for safe shooting. so far I have never had the bear charge me while i was inside the hunters blind.

Once you kill the bear, harvesting is also easy because at best, there is 1 wolf that may wander downward from further north of the lake but otherwise, the area between the unnamed pond and the trapper's cabin is wolf free, so you can haul back tons of meat and guts and have 3 smell bars and your chance of being attacked by wolves is zero. Store all the meat outside the cabin and only cook once it reaches <30% and then store the cooked meat outside the cabin again and you will be able to live for weeks.

The main reason obviously is to get the bear skin. The bear will respawn so you can repeat this process and get 2 bearskins and then you can make yourself the bedroll. And the reason I choose the trapper's cabin as my base is because it also has a workbench and a stove, so pretty much everything in one spot.

The reason I don't recommend the Camp Office, for example, is because the bear spawn is on the other, eastern side of mystery lake and the patrol area of up to 3 wolves extends into the lake.

That is a good spot for hunting that bear.

There is a little house near the Unnamed Pond, on the opposite side from Trapper's, which might also be convenient to drag meat/hides/guts to.

A lot of bears have a spot somewhere on their patrol route where you can safely shoot them, like a fallen tree, a car, or a hunting blind. PV Farmhouse has a porch you can safely shoot from, and a bear who walks right past it.

I only use bear hunt spot near a car, shoot it then enter the car, I cant imagine more safest. At Quionset Garage there is several cars and a possible bear patrol, Spruce Fall Bridge with alot of cars and a bear patrol. Farmstead in PV, there is a car. In DP also cars near a bear patrol, but you may run to car (not that safe).
In FM close to ML entrance there is a half fallen tree where you can climb up and shoot the bear from a realy safe spot.
I heard that bear can catch you in huntings blind if you are not in right spot (middle) there.

For me definitely the farmhouse in PV from the porch. Just wait until the bear passes nearby and lure it with a piece of meat crouched in the doorway. It's warm there so you have all the time. When he gets close enough, shoot him and drop the meat, close the door and use a bedroll to wait for the bear to bleed out. If he runs, dropping the meat seems to reset him and he starts walking again. Sleeping in the bedroll makes sure he doesn't wander of too far. And you have no chance of getting the going-indoor-stops-bleedout-bug.

I.m killing all the bears from dp to fm.
8 bears every 4-5 weeks.

If you're near a fire and shoot a bear, can it still attack you? Because one bear did. He started yelping, and running around and randomly ran towards me and bam, pounced

Fishing Camp in Coastal Highway. Sooner or later a bear walks right through the middle. You can shoot him and then go into a building. I have been using it as a base, crafting or cooking etc. and just listen for bear grunts. Or if the bear doesn't come into the camp, it may be over by the rabbits under the bridge, but for that you need a long distance shot with a bow.

There is good long distance visibility on the frozen lakes. If you shoot a bear with an arrow from long distance, it runs in a circle because it can't see you and doesn't know which way to run. A bear will also do that if you miss though, so you have to look for the blood splat.

There is another bear in CH on the other side that is always on the ice, or the one on the far side of mystery lake. Or later in the game at the cannery residences in BI. If you are playing on a level that you can eat predator meat (ie lvl 5 cooking in stalker) then 30 kg of bear meat is a nice way to build a base there, since there's not a lot of other game.

One of my favorite places is the cave at Eric's Falls. There is a bent tree close by that you can work from and have a very short carry to the cave. Only one wolf nearby and easy to take him out with one piece of meat to draw him in.

Other than that, I just find the location peaceful. Rabbits and deer nearby also. Great spot to live for a while. A short climb to a cave with coal, cattails nearby, and Mountaineers is not far away.

Seems to me that every region has it's safe spot to hunt a bear, except the one in HRV which i still couldn't find the easiest spot to hide or that the bear can't reach near offset falls. But for other region, there's always a safe spot to hunt a bear.

My favorite is the Bear on Mystery Lake. If you crouch down you can get under the dock closet to the bear. You can shoot at him and he can’t get you. Did it many times works really good

Did you try looking for fallen trees near his patrol route? They are pretty common and generally protect you from bears (surprisingly).

Make sure that first shot does the job :)

Even if you land a headshot the first shot still wont "do the job" unless it's a critical hit. Normally the bear will bleed. I had one rare instance where the hit landed, he started bleeding and panicking around, and somehow managed to pounce me. (edit for politeness)

I will shamelessly duck into a vehicle mind you, but the lack of visibility once you do so makes it less desirable than many other perches, at least in good weather.
Im using a mod to free look around in cars, as the ingame possibility is unnecessary limited, like in a 20+ years old arcade game.
Also once you enter the bear start running away and ignore you, so you may get out from car after.

I fear The Bear. When you hear him snuffling around but can't see him its scary.

Can Bears or Wolfs enter Hunting Blinds, or reach you if you are in one? Can they climb sloped fallen trees that you can walk up? Can they cross fallen tree type bridges?

Even in cars once I want s.hit on my pantz. I shooted a bear with rifle, somehow I missed it (I think I shooted the car frontal part instead of bear) then entered the car in panic. The bear started walking toward to where it heard the rifleshot. The bear walked to the car, it seemed the bear can see me inside, i looked into his eyes like a meter from my face. It walked it up to roof, his paws clipped trough the car it was half inside. Seriously I closed my eyes then pray and listening when I start hearing the maul encounter. :rabbitTLD:

I found another great and safe location to hunt a bear. The Cannery Worker Residences in the south-eastern coast of Bleak Inlet. Most of the Cannery Worker Residences are destroyed, but there is one cosy house you can use as a base. There's a lone bear in the eastern part of Bleak Inlet, whose patrol that goes right by the lake in front of this house. At the same time, there is a fallen tree behind your house that you can climb on, and it will drop you right on the roof of your house, which is really cool and something every TLD player should try out at least once.

This way you can hunt the bear without even having to retreat back into your house like a coward after the first shot and pass time for it to bleed out the way you do with cars. You can actually ENJOY the kill. You can keep shooting from the roof of your house and there's no way the bear can reach you. Great for target practice. And once the bear dies, he literally dies near your base so no need to haul meat, pelt and guts halfway across the map, like with other bear hunt locations. There are also no wolves nearby who can pick up the scent and attack you near your base.

There's also a fishing hut nearby, and a great view over the bay during sunset. One of the best places for your character to retire, imo.
