But avoid gro for lower levels (Angler's Den, Bitter Marsh) because will have a long and "wolf" path for return to this cave.
Problem with Angler's Den is that all exits from this valley is patrolled by wolves.
Is a good place for a base to stay, but not for base for explore surroundings.
Those wolves afraid of shadow.
Not on Loper, they're not.
Don't know about the rest of you but this map pretty boring. Unless of course you love climbing ropes, which i find exceedingly stupid.
I have shifted from survival/avoidance to hunter/gatherer .
My current base is anglers den due to the craft bench and proximity to fish for bait.
Ash Canyon has so many tree climbs you should be able to handle any threat from wolves and bears with just a bow.
Mining Camp has a nice barn that you can hunt bear from with no real danger of being mauled. This allows you to work on face shot with the bow. worst case you piss the bear off and it runs around being all mad and you can get some funny screen grabs in safety.
There's only one fishing hut in AC and it's not too far from Angler's Den (but it is through wolf territory). You could try the level above the fishing hut (Homesteader's something or other - I forget). You would need to climb a rope to go fishing which is not ideal, but it is the closest base location.
No hut directly but it is close enough to make it worth while.
I only cook fish when I need oil so carrying a stinky fish is a nice way to get wolves interested.
IMHO, this map is by far one of the best ever created for the game.
For me the base preference is Angler's Den, a no-brainer. I've always preferred indoor bases, and this one has good location relative to the key spots for long term sustainability, with of course the crafting bench. I could see using Homesteaders for a stretch to build up fishing skill and stock up on meat, but the trek to "unlock" it probably isn't worth it if you're not playing to 100% explore, but mostly focusing on just the survival and progression. I think it works best as an emergency shelter if you find yourself stuck in a blizzard and need to get indoors, assuming you did get the rope set up.
