Looking to Make a Trip to Last Resort Cannery Need Some Tips
So I'm looking to manufacture some more bullets, or at the very least using the milling machine to repair my knife and hatchet. I have 3 hatchets and 2 knifes however one of my knifes is down to 14% and I wanna repair it. I've never really used the milling machine before so are there any downsides besides it taking time to restore conditions? Like is there a chance it could break the knife or anything? Probably will prioritize the knife over bullets too since I have a ton of bullets and could come back later. Also trying to find out what is the best way to deal with timber wolves? Should I go in with a revolver, rifle, or not bother to fight? And finally I read something about a code online, is this just a story mode thing or not present in sandbox?

There is a locked door you need a code to get through. Start your search in Ravine transition zone.

I would snipe the timberwolves from a safe distance/location, and don't fully harvest them (or even not at all) so they take longer to respawn. If you do get surrounded, throw a lit marine flare at them a few times or hip-fire a revolver to scare them off.

Best way to deal with timberwolves is to see them first and snipe them from a distance. There are usually four on the radio tower level and two packs of four or five on the east side of the long bridge. Then there are three more packs on the west side of the bridge. And two packs in the delta region. Clearing them can take ammo but you can make more. Clearing them with arrows requires even more skill and patience. The ones around the cannery are very slow to respawn, so even though you’ll have to kill 12-14 of them to clear the cannery area, it’s worth it for the easy access.

I think the wolves in the cannery specifically never respawn, don't they? I like the revolver best for dealing with them. Really the timber wolves are the best thing you could use the revolver for. It's too weak for deer/bear/moose, and regular wolves are much more easily avoided.

IIRC they do respawn, at least in both Stakler and Loper. Once you deplete their aggro bar, it will take a few days, but at some point you'll have a new pack/aggro bar to deal with.

Best way to deal with a full pack is to use a marine flare - light it up and approach them, throw it to the closest one and slowly walk to pick it up, it will flee, rinse and repeat. I usually throw/pick it up 2-3 times when approaching the cannery for the first time, once you're inside it's rather easy to bait/snipe/escape them.

1. If you have never been to Bleak Inlet, you need to use two accesses before you can gain full access to the facilities you want to use. There is nothing about Bleak Inlet that is related to story mode. You will need that scrap of paper.

2. The aurora needs to be present to gain entry to the facilities you want, you do that once, then don't have to worry about that anymore. The aurora is needed to power the drill press. The drill press uses scrap metal as a component to the repair.

3. If the character's repair skill (not part of the existing skill tree) is less than 100% there is a chance that the repair will fail which expends the scrap metal but does nothing else to the item.

4. If doing a repair of a firearm, the gunsmithing skill level matters with respect to success (much like #3).

5. If playing in Pilgrim (like I do) then timberwolves can be ignored. Otherwise they are a hazard that you will have to deal with. Also, although there are cattails, the presence of game animals is rather limited depending on where you are in the region (e.g. in the frozen delta there is one moose and no other game animals except a few rabbits).

i just did this whole trip your talking about. here's some things you'll need.
first you'll need to come through ravine as you need to stop at the radio tower at the bleak inlet plateau. to get to bi from ravine you'll need one rope for a climb spot in ravine that doesn't have rope (if coming from coastal highway). i found the rope i needed in ravine, but I'm unsure that its always gonna pop that loot item. you'll need a second rope to climb down from the plateau to get to the cannery. that one i was again lucky enough to find on the watch tower up there. id def recommend bringing a rope for this trip in case either of those doesn't spawn in on your game.
i went because i had no ammo left. and can say that with intelligence, sneak, torches, and stamina you can best the wolves. i didn't kill a single one at the cannery and was able to sneak/run in multiple times without taking damage from them. its tricky. another thing to consider is whether you're gonna wait at the door for the Arora, or make a base camp at the workers residences. its super easy to survive long term over at the residences, as there is a fishing shack, deer, and wood around. just got to be sneaky as there is a wolf pack and a bear very close by. if you gonna camp at the code door take plenty of food. don't worry about taking metal with you in there, if you have a saw there's tons to harvest. but you will need your lead and gunpowder obviously. probs goes without saying but bleak inlet is very cold, windy, and has lots of thin ice. you'll probs get stuck inside frequently so plan for that. always have extra food and wood. hug the shore lines and have plenty of sprint when you cross ice.
hope that helps anyone who comes looking.

Pretty sure the tower rope is guaranteed, or I have been extremely lucky the dozen or so times I grabbed it. Ravine rope is usually either in the yellow trolley or the cave next to ML. Can just grab the one out of the CHD to be safe though.

One thing to keep in mind with Bleak Inlet is that it is cold. Like, cold cold. If you explore around the cannery there's a little no loading zone indoor area with a fire barrel and one of those blankets on the ground that counts as a bed. It's nice because you can pretty reliably get from there to the rope climb that leads around to the ammo crafting bench and milling machine without having to deal with the timberwolves, even during an aurora. I lost my first run in the triple digit days there though. It was a voyageur game with all the best gear in good repair, so I thought it would be safe to just sleep through the night. Then a blizzard came in and I never woke up.

I think the rope is guaranteed indeed. However IIRC it's hanging on the wall outside. You can easily miss it.

I think Jollykone was talking about potentially needing a rope for the Ravine climb point, it is not guaranteed there will be a rope in Ravine, but there often is. The rope is always at the BI watchtower, but as Romain said, outside and easy to miss for newer players.

iam playing interlopper in the cannery you find a rope to go to the milling machine the best way to deal with timberwolf is to climb the rope and shoot them arrow or torch they cant reach you "with timberwolf always bring wood with they cant attack you make a fire and dont let them go behind you always look at them and throw torch or bullet arrow even rock;) """"spolier"" when you putv the code and you enter the loading room a wolf waiting for you bring torch with you
