I would snipe the timberwolves from a safe distance/location, and don't fully harvest them (or even not at all) so they take longer to respawn. If you do get surrounded, throw a lit marine flare at them a few times or hip-fire a revolver to scare them off.
Best way to deal with a full pack is to use a marine flare - light it up and approach them, throw it to the closest one and slowly walk to pick it up, it will flee, rinse and repeat. I usually throw/pick it up 2-3 times when approaching the cannery for the first time, once you're inside it's rather easy to bait/snipe/escape them.
2. The aurora needs to be present to gain entry to the facilities you want, you do that once, then don't have to worry about that anymore. The aurora is needed to power the drill press. The drill press uses scrap metal as a component to the repair.
3. If the character's repair skill (not part of the existing skill tree) is less than 100% there is a chance that the repair will fail which expends the scrap metal but does nothing else to the item.
4. If doing a repair of a firearm, the gunsmithing skill level matters with respect to success (much like #3).
5. If playing in Pilgrim (like I do) then timberwolves can be ignored. Otherwise they are a hazard that you will have to deal with. Also, although there are cattails, the presence of game animals is rather limited depending on where you are in the region (e.g. in the frozen delta there is one moose and no other game animals except a few rabbits).
first you'll need to come through ravine as you need to stop at the radio tower at the bleak inlet plateau. to get to bi from ravine you'll need one rope for a climb spot in ravine that doesn't have rope (if coming from coastal highway). i found the rope i needed in ravine, but I'm unsure that its always gonna pop that loot item. you'll need a second rope to climb down from the plateau to get to the cannery. that one i was again lucky enough to find on the watch tower up there. id def recommend bringing a rope for this trip in case either of those doesn't spawn in on your game.
i went because i had no ammo left. and can say that with intelligence, sneak, torches, and stamina you can best the wolves. i didn't kill a single one at the cannery and was able to sneak/run in multiple times without taking damage from them. its tricky. another thing to consider is whether you're gonna wait at the door for the Arora, or make a base camp at the workers residences. its super easy to survive long term over at the residences, as there is a fishing shack, deer, and wood around. just got to be sneaky as there is a wolf pack and a bear very close by. if you gonna camp at the code door take plenty of food. don't worry about taking metal with you in there, if you have a saw there's tons to harvest. but you will need your lead and gunpowder obviously. probs goes without saying but bleak inlet is very cold, windy, and has lots of thin ice. you'll probs get stuck inside frequently so plan for that. always have extra food and wood. hug the shore lines and have plenty of sprint when you cross ice.
hope that helps anyone who comes looking.
I think the rope is guaranteed indeed. However IIRC it's hanging on the wall outside. You can easily miss it.
