If everything is in tip-top condition:
27°C warmth
12°C windproof
Together with 44% protection, 62% sprint which will always be there as long as you wear the set-up.
But realistically, the average is around 22°C warmth and 10°C windproof - this is because I repair my clothes only when they drop to the lowest condition that I can repair back up to 100 with a single repair without wasting any cloth.
I use this set-up with normal bedroll, never had a problem with sleeping at the back of the cave without a fire at night, even during blizzards.
Edit: The set-up is 11.14kg when worn, if that matters for you.
I don't think there's a 'right' setup as different clothes lend themselves to different playstyles. I rarely sprint, so I'm happier trudging along a bit slower and warmer.
I actually just made my first bearskin bedroll, it's already been nice when it comes to opportunities to take a nap outside without having to so heavily stoke up a fire. It's heavy though, I imagine weight would become an issue if you don't use the Satchel.
I think they've done a great job making different types of clothing viable for different reasons.
BTW, I think the moose hide satchel has a lot more value than wearing a second ear wrap. The extra 5 kg carrying capacity far outweighs the extra 1 degree of warmth that the wrap provides.
This played a part in my decision making too. I feel that if I'm getting hit by animals, that's entirely my fault and I should just get better. Where as bad weather is pretty much unavoidable.
I finished crafting mine on Day 35, and now on Day 242, that thing is still at 70% and I've not even repaired it once. I've worn it in the outer layer all the time and been through direct blizzards (though very briefly), 2 wolf struggles, etc. No bear maulings during that period though.
I always thought that the cloak decayed the slowest, but if you're wearing them, it doesn't really matter either way.
If it's really an issue, you can actually harvest the moose hide cloak to recover the moose hide, and then you can craft it again. (This takes longer, but doesn't require you to kill another moose.)
That's actually a really solid tip, thnx!
I didn't know this. Is this true even if the cloak drops below a certain percentage? Can I still harvest it and get back a hide if the cloak is below 70%? 50%? I still think I will stick with the bear skin coat because of the warmth... and because it doesn't get any more badass than walking around with a bear's head on your chest.
I imagine you can do it as long as the moose cloak isn't ruined. I just checked one of my files, and my 72% moose cloak allows me to harvest it (takes 2 hours to harvest the "cured moose hide" back, plus a couple dozen hours to craft it at a workbench again?)
By the way, slightly separate topic, but in case anyone's reading this thread and is curious... the moose satchel does NOT require another cured moose hide for repairs, but it also does not yield a cured moose hide if you harvest it. The satchel is cured leather both ways.
1.) Do wolves sometimes flee from you in a bearskin coat? Or only the wolf jacket?
2.) I had a strange encounter with a wolf recently at the very beginning of a new run. No wolf jacket / bearkin coat. I spotted the wolf first, so I went into stealth/crouch mode and tried to go around his flank, but I lost visibility of him due to a tiny hill... and apparently he turned around & doubled back right at me... so we basically walked face-to-face into each other at the top of this little hill/ridge... and apparently it scared the wolf more than it did me and he ran off! Lol I couldn't believe it, but I did not stick around to waste my good fortune. :D
How rare is that, to scare a wolf with NO jacket? This was on a Custom stalker template. Do you think it's only because I was crouching, and I suddenly popped up inside of his normal aggro radius? I mean, he was at like charging distance, I was really surprised we didn't go into a struggle... Fluke??
