If you play with passive animals, nothing happens if you walk close. If you are playing with aggressive animals, they can run away if they wake up and see you nearby or they can suddenly attack. It is a good hunting opportunity - shoot them with an arrow and run for your life to safety. It should bleed out.
All in all I didn't ever see any other animal sleeping. Never. I have nearly 500 hours on TLD and the only thing I saw is where wolfs do run when a blizzard occurs. I saw a wolf running away, followed him and saw how he stayed in cave. That was interesting to know where they go on blizzard. But sleeping - no, never, wolfes dears rabbits mooses are never sleeping. At least I never saw
Just once in my life, I want to stomp on a sleeping moose. XD
Not sure why he didn't die; maybe while I was passing time he despawned and respawned, or maybe he just hadn't bled out yet.
