Yes, the bears love to snooze. The one in Ash Canyon seems to be suffering from some kind of narcolepsy - I have seen it more asleep than awake :winter2019tiredsnowman:

If you play with passive animals, nothing happens if you walk close. If you are playing with aggressive animals, they can run away if they wake up and see you nearby or they can suddenly attack. It is a good hunting opportunity - shoot them with an arrow and run for your life to safety. It should bleed out.

so i just missed my chance to kill that bear then. :) But anyway, thanks for the info. I was really scared if that was more likely a trap for me. I was afraid because of trauma by bear attack in desolation point.

That one scared me too. From afar I didn't realise it was a bear but getting closer I did. It was snoring. I just crept up to it and one shot in the head and it was dead. I got real close so I wouldn't miss. Never had such an easy bear kill before.

That's the way I hunt bears on loper. It's extremely easier to spy on the bear to know when he goes to sleep and than 1 headshot kill it. It doesn't hear you when you are crouching and come 1 meter close. I didn't ever try to walk not crouch - I was too scared to try - but maybe even walking is fine near a sleeping bear

All in all I didn't ever see any other animal sleeping. Never. I have nearly 500 hours on TLD and the only thing I saw is where wolfs do run when a blizzard occurs. I saw a wolf running away, followed him and saw how he stayed in cave. That was interesting to know where they go on blizzard. But sleeping - no, never, wolfes dears rabbits mooses are never sleeping. At least I never saw

Did he wake you up to put you in a permanent sleep?

So I see I'm not just imagining things ... I just found a sleeping bear just below a climbing point on the Forsaken Airfield Map ... I was up above it, had my washer going and it was windy in the game so at first I didn't know what I was hearing ... cranked the sound up, came down, and there it was ... at first I thought it was dead and the game was mistakenly playing bear noises for a corpse (I've heard that happen before, mostly on wolves, though) but then I saw its chest slowly rising and falling, and the fresh set of paw prints in the snow behind it .... and me, standing there with an arrow knocked like a dummy just yards away from it. I don't have a rifle yet on this Stalker run, after searching about 8 zones and interconnecting zones, and I'm still looking for a final reishi shroom to cure food poisoning even though I'm level 5 at cooking, b/c I keep accidentally eating raw meat instead of moving it out of inventory ... lmao .... so suffice to say, I didn't test the theory on whether one shot to the head with my Level 4 Archery or Level 4 Revolver would do the trick.

I never knew bears went to sleep, I need to find a sleeping bear in my current run.

One time I shot the ML bear out of the fishing hut near his cave. Passed time in the hut with a fire to warm up, then went looking for him. Saw what I thought was his carcass on the ice near his cave. Walked right up to it and tried to target it to harvest, but no "targetting dot." Guess at one point I got too close, 'cause he woke me up and mauled me. Turned out he was just sleeping.

Not sure why he didn't die; maybe while I was passing time he despawned and respawned, or maybe he just hadn't bled out yet.

The bear cave at FA ( across lake from tower ) that bear is always sleeping in my runs. I just tip toe away...don't eat bear and the hide is too heavy anyway.

The first time I spotted one on the ice in ML I thought it was dead and walked up on it. Mistake.....got mauled. Now I'm very careful checking out bears on the ice.
