Crampons + Repair?
Would it be possible to repair these at somepoint in the future or find another pair? It has just occured to me that it's not possible to repair it.

Is this going to chance in the future or is it just a one time grab each run?

It's been about 3 in-game weeks since I got the crampons, and they have not degraded by a single %. My guess is that they don't degrade naturally at all like the mag lens (as I would've noticed by now since decay rate is much higher on Interloper). They may/may not be damaged if you get into a struggle/mauling or if you wear them out during a blizzard for example. Again I've not tested anything to that extent yet so I don't actually know the exact answer.

Keep in mind that I only wear these when I'm climbing ropes so most of the time, they stay safe in my inventory.

So until they come up with a way to repair the crampons, my suggestion would be not to wear them on all the time, and preferably only when climbing ropes.

Makes sense, cause within maybe 3 in-game weeks (Stalker) They've gone down to 50% already, Suppose I shouldn't wear them until I actually climb ropes

I see. So they do degrade naturally then, just like any other clothing item.

Except in this situation, If they get down to ruined. If they Devs decide only one pair respawn, then I guess we're out of luck, Anyway good to know now. I do hope they make it repairable, very useful when climbing ropes.

Have you checked if they can be repaired using the milling machine in BI?

I'd love to help you check if I can but I'm currently in CrH heading to DP for my little side mission and it's a long trek back to BI...

I thought they only get damaged if you get into struggles with wolves?

I've been wearing them, and I've been climbing up ropes and sustaining fall damage/torn clothes from billy goating down cliffs, and mine are still at 100%...

Now that I think about it, I believe they still do decay naturally, although it may be at an extremely slow rate when stored that it's almost unnoticeable.

My reason for this is from watching a video of Rational Bassist (the player with a 12-year-old Interloper save) on getting the crampons on his run. When he finally got them, they were already at 12% so possibly there's some natural degradation going on here.

To be fair, Just within getting them, Bears and Wolves mauled me, I was able to escape from wolves easily with a bit of minor damage, On the other hand I got mauled by one bear cause I failed to hit a headshot, The second bear mauled me cause he waited for me to start igniting a campfire which I couldn't move so I just kinda had to accept my fate and get mauled :( Devs please allow us to cancel a campfire instead of having to wait for it to fail/complete

I will be sad if they decay and cannot be repaired. I hope we can at least use the milling machine.

The condition effects on the crampons might be a bit buggy. Mine have been 4% wet for about 24 in game hours. Indoors, outdoors, next to a roaring fire, they stay 4% wet.

My character is down at the Mountaineer's Hut in TWM right now. Let me trek over to BI and report back about whether or not they are millable / repairable.
GunMaster Dec 13, 2020 @ 9:14am
My Interloper run was 250 days when i found them 95 percent. I climbed some ropes and didnt see them break. My bet is that they just slowly rot down. Not critical.
wilky Dec 13, 2020 @ 9:19am
IDK... I think it might be an issue for Loper due to the high decay rate.

Y'all are saying you found them in like 90-95% condition but that's because you took your survivor to AC within a couple days of them spawning into the world, right? But on a fresh run, if it took you 30 or 40 days to summit AC for the first time, I wonder what condition you'd find them in...
GunMaster Dec 13, 2020 @ 9:22am
Well, if so, why youtubers find stuff 0 percent while exploring new locations? Because stuff just spawn rotten cause 250 days already past(or more). Thats the issue everybody complains about

I'm too lazy to retype everything so this is from my post in the official Hinterland forums:

"In that run, he has survived for a total of 4433 days by the time he found the crampons, which have degraded by 88% (this is assuming they always spawn at 100% at the start of the save) indicating that they have a decay rate of roughly 0.020%/day when stored. I went to cross-check using my own Interloper run where I found the crampons on Day 160(ish) and they were at 97% - the math checks out when I used the same decay rate as above to calculate.

Again, this is just my speculation - we definitely need more data from other Interlopers to confirm about this (reason being each game mode has its own decay rates, with Interloper having the fastest). So it'd be great if anyone playing Interloper could share on which day they found the crampons and the condition at which they were found."

To sum it up, I believe they still decay naturally even when stored but at an extremely slow rate that it is almost trivial even on Interloper so not much of a big deal to worry about if you use them sparingly. But again, an option to repair them would be nice I guess.
