The devs and creative director have been asked this multiple times over the years, and the answer has always been "not likely". Survival mode is you alone against Nature. People have asked for NPCs like Traders, pets, and other survivors since this game came out in Early Access. If they were going to add them to Survival mode, they would have done so already, IMHO.
I mean I thought the game was already finished but apparently they're still adding the sub par campaign episodes to an already amazing sandbox game, and honestly surviving the nature gets kinda boring 50 nights in. Having some humans or zombies or whatever would be a cool late game addition.
So yeah, if they keep increasing the price of the game, they might as well add to the main game mode aka the sandy landy
Nah, this is not the devs' vision for TLD.
NPC’s as an option could be fun, but I personally don’t think the game could handle their implementation, without having to do a massive redesign to several game mechanics. I imagine they’d cause more frustration than fun, with how the game is right now. Maybe we’ll see NPC’s if there’s ever a TLD 2? While I’m not as interested in bandits, having merchants or even just other hunters/survivors could be fun.
Certain areas have a creepy feel to them, after climbing down a rope I sometimes think what if a crazed prisoner was stalking us, cutting the rope, stealing our water in middle of the night, etc.
Options could be added to sandbox for those who prefer to be completely isolated.
They are contractually obligated to complete the story mode. And they really want to tell this particular story.
It's running on Unity engine. That engine has many functions for NPCs and AI.
Yeah I agree, I wouldnt even mind just having dying NPCs. The more ppl they add in the campaign makes it more odd to not have any in sandbox
