The burning to death mechanic
I defy anyone to lean over a fire and stay there until you burn to death. Well, apparently that is what our character does. Evidently, he has absolutely no reflex actions.

Rather than screaming AAAAAAAAHHHHHGH!!!! and leaping halfway across the map and convulsively rolling in the snow he just stands in the flames in silence.

3 seconds later he is dead.

Maybe this one needs a re-think.

I think doing that would be a waste of time.
I say if you control your character you just need to press the back key to solve the problem

You are in direct control of the player character, it is your fault that you burned to death because you did not respond to stimuli. See IRL you have pain receptors and you react to things that hurt you. That's your job in TLD, to keep yourself alive. What you're describing is lazy handholding.

You are all on crack. The mechanic has no feedback to react to, other than a slightly strobing screen.

I know how to control my character. I have 1500 hours in this game. This mechanic needs better feedback or realistic reflex actions in response to burning.

...further, I was burning to death while locked in the fire interface screen. So no 's' key was going to save me.

Just tried to replicate this, just to see if there is any feedback to stepping into a fire.

There is.

My gal stepped into the fire and YELLED "Jeeez!!! Ow That burns!" while the red "Burn affliction" icon immediately popped up on the screen. And I was able to make her step backward out of the fire. She was brand new, had starter gear, and no meds. She didn't die in 3 seconds.

In fact, she kept complaining "Ow ow ow ow!" And making noise, while I made her walk back into the fire on purpose, after having no medical treatment for the first set of burns. I saw no "strobing" screen, that only came at the end after she fell under 10% condition and started doing the deanman's walk into death. After I made her walk into the fire the second time, to click on the fire interface screen. Which I was easily able to click the "Back" button at the lower right of the screen to back out of and move her out of the fire itself, pretty quickly. While she was yelling "Ow! Hot hot hot!" Still not dead, still no medical treatment. Still no strobing screen.

The third time I walked her directly into and on top of the fire and parked her there, she yelled some more. And stood there, because I did hit any of the WASD keys, UNTIL her condition dropped below 10% (with burn affliction red icons rolling up the right side of my screen, one after another, after another. No medical treatment given again. I just moved here away from the fire, and let her stumble until she died. Complaining all the while.

Back button In the fire interface. Character yells and screams when getting burned. Burn affliction icons galore when she is getting burned. Blurred screen edges (but no "strobing" screen) after the first burn, from the Pain affliction happening as well. Lots of feedback the three times I walked my gal into a burning campfire. Either you are exaggerating, were already in really bad condition and stumbled into the fire and clicked the interact button to pull up the fire interface while you were standing in the fire (already almost dead), had your sound and/or subtitles off, missed the huge red burn and pain affliction warnings on the right side of the screen, or you experienced a significant bug.

And why would you step into a fire to engage the fire interface screen anyway? You can interact with a campfire from a safe distance away from the fire, and cannot move forward, backward or sideways into the fire while you are in the fire interface.

Firstly, this is interloper, there is no standing in the fire and going ow, ow ow. there is only death.

Secondly, after 1500 hours, I have the voices turned off so as to avoid driving myself insane with the inane dialogue.

Further, I didn't step into the fire. I leaned over an existing burned out firepit during an infrequent moment of sunshine between blizzards on day 83 of interloper, lit the fire with 1 stick and the magnifying glass, then immediately (as there isn't much time) clicked add fuel. proceeding then to burn to death in about three seconds without any notable interface warnings except the pulsing. There is no option to move backward in the fire interface screen even if I had realized what the pulsing was.

My initial condition was probably 60+ percent.

Firstly, I am not Ms. Cleo, nor is anyone else here, AFAIK. So... we were supposed to somehow know this information, before you ever bothered to share the details how?
Oh, wait.
The ones you accused of being on crack may have somehow known, I guess, and passed it onto everyone else?

And correct, you cannot move backward, sideways, or forward while in the fire interface. You can hit the Back button in the interface to break out of the interface though, to see why your screen is pulsing (I thought it was strobing?).

And if you had not moved in any direction after lighting the fire, you should NOT have been in the fire, or close enough to have been burned by it. Which gets back to:

The fire interface and mechanic, and the burn affliction mechanic works the same in all experience modes. Pilgrim, Voyageur, Stalker (which I did my test in), and Interloper.

With so many hours in the game, you should know this, and the mechanic, when working as intended, does have plenty of feedback. Nothing else in the game has "reflex actions", so why should this, which sounds like it was a bug, that should be reported as such.

This happened to me recently in interloper. I definitely knew I was burning.

I had a few burns also on loper. When walking out of a house / cave directly into the fire. Also happened to me when going out of a car :) the fire was just close to the door. And twice when advancing too fast towards the fire to cook something. I have the voice on :) But the screen was also sending messages. Hmmm burning takes a bit of your condition but healing is not that difficult - I never died of a burn but it is possible :) I always walked from the fire quite fast - never left my character standing.

There is no lean mechanic, so you stepped into a burned out firepit and lit it. This aside, it's quite clear when your character is suffering. You have the sound off, so there ya go. Maybe you should also have your eyes looked at - half-joking - as there are many on-screen indicators as well, which cannot be unseen (turned off).

Anyhow, instead of just complaining (or randomly jumping into the fray ;) ) perhaps you have a better idea? I'm quite happy with it as is, so the ball is in your court.
