Best way to kill a bear?
I have a revolver, rifle, and bow. Which weapon is the most effective? I'm struggling to decide whether I should use the rifle or the revolver.

I for one would surely use the Bow and aim for an ear or just below his right eye...and no...I'm not kidding!
But you should have at least some Experience with the bow...if not...you should use the Rifle imo.
...aim for the same Spots...

Rifle. Just remember you won't kill it with one shot. Or scare it away like with wolves. I would shoot it once then run inside a building. Six hours later or so it should have bled out and you have to look all over the map.
One way is to go to a fishing hut near a bear cave, like in Coastal Highway or Mystery Lake.
Bring some meat with you so the bear will starting walking towards you. If you get scared drop the meat and the bear walks somewhere else. Go near the door of the hut with the meat, crouch down and shoot the bear when close, then run into the hut and not just at the doorway. Then drop the meat and the bear walks away, shoot again, run back into hut. Should take 3 shots this way but you can save ammo if you just let it bleed out and search.

I faced the bear in Mountain Town, at the bridge. I was fortunate enough that the road up ahead was a dead end. I shot it once, it ran for 2 minutes, then I shot it again. Hid in a car for another 2 minutes, then saw it drop dead. I'd say for my first bear kill, this was incredibly lucky. Did not take long and only 2 shots fired.

Well Congratulations to that!
...don't get too confident it'll happen that way very often... ;-)

I killed a bear with a lucky shot with a revolver while perched above its den in Pleasant Valley. Waited for it to come out and nailed it with a critical head shot. I had enough time to run away before it could figure out how to get up the hill. Unfortunately it bled out somewhere and I never found the body :(

I typically...key word typically...drop them in one rifle shot to the head. If they are far away, I will crouch and fire a round that misses them on purpose or quick fire a pistol shot and switch to the rifle. Then they turn towards you (well, the sound) and slowly approach. I will practice aiming a few times and get my mouse position good. I let him get closer to the point where I think he might rear up and charge before firing. Even with level 1 rifle, I'd say that maybe 80% of the time I drop them in one shot. That other 20% I get mauled though...so I try to save first.

I've got them with the pistol as they were charging me (not related to the tactic above...just happened to have it equiped and stumbled on a bear). Took three shots and they literally fell at my feet.

A couple of things. I play on stalker. I have killed a bear at least twice in my travels with one rifle shot. dropped him right where he stood, and many times where he ran away. Once I even shot one from the deck of the Riken with the revolver and killed him with one shot, though he ran away and I never found him. I have also had many times where one shot, made him run away crying like a baby, but he didn't die.

Im not a great shooter so I only instakilled a bear once with a rifle headshot.

When I kill bears I just give him a hit, hide/run for cover myself and wait him for bleed out. Thus I do prefer the arrow because seems quieter, cleaner and I can figure better if it was a hit or a miss, but even the revolver does a job.

Congradulations. I'm playing on stalker level, that's just right for me. Interloper was fighting for survival all the time and in Voyager I just hoard massive amounts of everything. Once I practiced hunting wolves I was no longer afraid of them like I was at first. I'm still scared of bears!

I'm still scared of bears, too. Even if I manage to kill one, I approach the huge hulk of its corpse with trepidation. If I had a stick, I would poke it with it to make sure its dead.

Totally agree. I always play on stalker. Though Interloper is fun as it is a great challenge, it can be a little overwhelming at times.

That's not a real question, right ? Luck, RNG and other things notwithstanding, there's no comparison. Wanna kill something big ? Use the most firepower. I mean... is it even a choice ? I've killed many a bear with a bow just for the lolz... but asking what's the "most effective" ? Not really a matter for debate.

I once one-shot a bear with the flare gun, of all things. Complete act of desperation and the thing just keels over and dies, I couldn't believe my eyes :hatchetTLD: :hatchetTLD: :hatchetTLD:

Effectiveness is subjectively relative to the user and how much the RNG likes or hates you. :steamhappy:

The bow, rifle, and revolver can take the bear - either it drops dead or it bleeds out (be sure it is bleeding). Which one you use depends on your confidence in getting a hit.

The bow may be a bit more problematic because the arrow has a flight arc so range matters more (though if you were of Geltaz quality archery I wouldn't worry, much) where the rifle and revolver generally do not. Of course take precautions to avoid the bear mauling.
