ICON: White heart / red + sign ... what does it mean ...?
This icon is displayed on the Status screen (the one showing what clothing you're wearing), and it's right in the middle of your chest overlaying your shirt.

Fifteen minutes of Googling didn't turn up any information about it - does anyone here know what the icon means ...?

Actually, I find the lack of tooltips for obscure-looking icons is taking the game's whole 'figure it out y'self' aspect a bit too far ...

It's not reasonable for the devs to assume that players will intuitively understand what a white heart signifies, particularly one with a big red cross in the middle of it - is it just doubling up on my condition meter ...? There again, does it mean I'm about to have a heart attack from carrying too much weight ...?

Hmm, I guess I could shortly be seeing ... "You died because the devs consider you too stupid to figure out what their icons represent!"

OK then,
Thanks!

Do you have a screenshot to post? No clue what you are describing. A screenshot would help.

Perhaps you're on about the encumbered symbol

Not exactly sure what you mean by a red cross on the heart (I've only seen a blue cross) but it probably means you need medical attention. Look at the part of the status screen that shows your afflictions, probably something bad there. Also, I think the heart is always white no matter what.

Okay, that isn't the clothing screen (with the paperdoll), that is the status screen, where you can see injuries and afflictions (both negative and positive afflictions). Look to the right, and you wlll see that you currently have the positive affliction (Yes, I know,, that sounds odd, lol) of Well Fed. That heart with the cross symbol on the character's chest indicates that the buff from that affliction is active, and you now have both 5kg more carry weight, and increased total condition possible. It mirrors the status bar below, with the heart (condition) and the plus sign/cross to show you now can have 110% total condition. If you lose the buff from well fed, but allowing your calorie store to drop below zero, the icon on the chest, and the plus sign to the right of the condition status bar below will disappear.

Just a bit of redundancy, showing the same thing in 2 places, to try to make sure players can see it quickly and easily. I tend to look at the condition status bar below, my husband tends to look at the character. It allows us to each visualize it and process the information our own way.

It's good to have that heart and cross. Very good!

I don't think it means I'm encumbered, because I'm carrying 30kgs with a 35kg capacity.
And I don't have any afflictions either - my only status there is 'Well Fed'.

If it was a blue cross I'd assume it was just an additional graphic for 'Condition', but a red cross suggests it doesn't relate to that ...

Cheers

LOL. The red is just the color of the shirt underneath, on the character. It is basically a transparent hole in a cross shape.

Ah OK, thanks guys ...

A heart / + seems like an odd icon to use for signifying 'Well Fed' though!

Cheers

Eh, the heart is for condition, just like on the needs meters, and the status bar below. Fairly typical for a lot of RPGs and survival games. But, yeah, I can see how it can be confusing or seem a bit odd, if you have never seen it before. Especially since the game is advertised as "no hand holding" (the devs mean that, lol, maybe a bit too much at times...). I envy players who are experiencing things for the first time in this game. Been a long time since I had a "first" in this game. Besides ketchup chips and maple syrup, that is. ;)

Always feel free to ask for help here. This community of gamers is one of the best on Steam. Just maybe try not to fling so much mud at the devs in the OP, you'll find you will often get a better reception here if you are a little less immediately angry. Go easy, my friend. We generally don't bite. Much. Many of us truly love this game, and the developers, and want to help new players learn to appreciate the game like we do. so we are always happy to answer questions, and (try to) have civil discussions about likes and dislikes with the game.

I hope you enjoy the game, at least half as much as I do. :)

I knew you would too, micah. :tinder:

Thanks for those insights IFIYGD, though I now suspect it really means ...

"Your blood pressure has gone through the roof, because you forgot to pause the game while you posted on the Steam forums ... so now you're hypothermic!"

Ouch!

Ew w w w w... ouch! (Steam, 3 "w"s together does not mean I want to make a link... sheesh)
"Come on little fire... fire, fire, fire... why didn't that work?"

And if it helps any... i did that too, a few times. The worst was going back to the game to find myself at about 25% condition, with a bear coming for me. That. hurt. A lot. :fcp_bear:

Eek! ... that's unlucky IFIYGD ... still, I'm always happy to learn from other's mistakes ;)

My biggest stuff-up to date is taking eight hours sleep, and forgetting to extinguish my lantern first - that cost me a whole litre of kerosene.

OK, I think I'll just go back to my cabin now, and have a good long sulk ...

LOL!

We've all been there, done that, I think. Some of us more times than we might like to admit. :spazdunno:
