Here's a link to the Fandom Wiki for the game (the better and more up-to-date Wiki of the 2 (English Language) Wikis out there.), linked to the cabin Fever page: https://thelongdark.fandom.com/wiki/Cabin_Fever
Up to you if you want to read it.
The online forums are also a great place to look for information, with many of the people here also very active there, and some really experienced long-timers who never use the Steam forums: https://hinterlandforums.com/forums/
To discourage such behavior, cabin fever becomes a risk as the average time a player spends indoors (including certain portions of caves and interior caves) reaches or exceeds 12 hours out of 24. This average time is smoothed over a six-day moving average which meant that what one did in the previous six days would impact the risk.
The effect of getting cabin fever was that the player could no longer stay "inside" and rest (sleep). The "cure" was to remain outside for 24 hours which should then reduce the average time indoors by 2 hours (i.e. 12+ hour going to 10+ hour).
Cabin fever risk can be a problem especially if in locations where survival outdoors can be a problem or where one has to spend time indoors because say there is a forging session going on.
Something like this.
Not a stove of any sort. Not a fireplace. Not a fire barrel.
And the timer will start at midnight, the day/night you light the campfire. So,depending on when you light the campfire, it may take more than 72 in-game hours to get the achievement to pop.
I think it took around 81 or so in-game hours for the achievement to unlock and the notification to pop up for me (was ages ago...). I recommend trying this in a location where wind is not going to be a factor, or not as much of a factor, like a cave.I know some people built the campfire on top of a pot-belly stove in a fishing hut with a door, but I am not sure if you can still do that or not. If the fire burns out, for any reason, before the achievement unlocks, the timer will reset, and you will have to start over. Pick your location, stockpile sticks and other firewood there, as well as water and food. You will need to really keep and eye on the fir to make sure wind does not knock it down in time, or that it does not burn out while you are out hunting, fishing or exploring.
It isn't a difficult achievement, but it does take some planning.
