Cold Fusion
So I'm going for my third feat and am only at a paltry 28 days survived outside. Lately, I've been adoring living in the Mountaineer's hut in TWM, and since I have ALL THE LOOT EVER stashed in it, I'd like to stay there awhile longer. I'm wondering what exactly "outside" means for the Cold Fusion feat?

I know it was discussed that "Indoors" was specifically any location that gave you a loading screen before entering, like a cave or house. But for such things as curing animal pelts and saplings "indoors", places like Mountaineer's Hut and Lookout towers, which don't have loading screens, still count as indoors.

So I'm just curious, can I chill out in the Mountaineer's hut for 70-ish more days and have it count toward my Cold Fusion feat, or should I nip up to the top of the lighthouse again like I did for the nightwalker achievement? :P (Or was that patched?)

Don't quote me but I think the hut is indoors. Easy test. Check your journal total hours indoor and out, then sleep or pass time for an hour and re-check the total.

Yes it counts as indoors for everything exept food decay and being able to read during nights.

On second thought, i might be wrong on that. Pretty sure i never got cabin fever once while living there. For curing at least it counts as indoors.

Awesome! That explains why I'm usually able to read a whole book in one go while hanging out there in the middle of the night if it's not a blizzard. I know for curing it definitely counts, been curing so many hides/gut so that was what was really confusing me the most. Thanks a ton!

And I'll try Athiker's trick; why didn't I think of that! So simple!

@Chasey. Yep, real simple. Only took me about 700 hours to figure out :-)

You can get cabin fever in MH. Had to spend a day fishing out front once to reduce it.

If you have good clothing and/or a bear bedroll, a snow shelter or car can be good places to rest at night. They both provide shelter from windchill as well as warmth bonuses.

Another dodge is to do as much of your busy work as you can outdoors. I move outside to do mending and cooking even if I am near a house with a fire place. Off course you need to make sure that you are in a safe place.

Hmm, okay. I'll try that since I don't really want to move out of TWM yet. I DO have 2 bear pelts curing, though! So I'll start camping out in that little fishing hut on Crystal Lake once I hop back into the game later, since there aren't too many other shelters to go for in TWM. Suppose I could just camp outside a cave, too, or... well, hey, the tail section of the plane might work! I'd just have to cart a ton of food up there if I didn't want to climb up and down the rope to go hunt something.

There's always the Deer Clearing cave. Someone said a while back that even though the Stats page classifies time spent in an open cave as Indoor, it actually counts as Outdoor for things like Cabin Fever.

Well, this all answer a post I made asking about the same thing.

Glad we could help out! Or rather, that these other folks could help us both out!

Also, thanks everyone! I've decided to set up "camp" in the fishing hut on the lake outside Mountaineer's; it counts as outside; so I'll be living there for the remaining 50-ish days now :D

It keeps me safe from bears and wolves and the mountaineer hut is close enough for me to bail if I get in over my head. Got me a whole 2 bear's worth of steaks, the bedroll that came from them, and all the firewood I could chop/carry in here in about 10 game days! :D (I almost feel like I'm doing the White Out challenge again!)

Hope you have Cooking 5, because otherwise you're going to get a ton of food poisoning trying to eat all that bear meat before it spoils.

I never understood why bear meat could give you food poisoning even at 85% condition.

I don;t worry so much about the Food Poisoning. The intestinal Parasites fro Wolf or Bear meat before Lvl 5 Cooking are what keep me from killing predators through hunting. I'll kill them if they attack, but man, it sucks to waste all that meat and only get a pelt and guts, because I am afraid of the loss of condition and really resource and time heavy treatment for worms. Went through that once, once was enough, lol!

I eat predator meat before level5 cooking, but I make sure that I never go above 1% parasite risk. I'll chomp down another kilo of wolf the second that 1% risk goes. Unless 'safe' food is particularly plentiful wolf meat is a great supplement in the early days of a run. Maybe I've just been lucky so far.

Re OP, it's interesting that you can cure hides/saplings in caves (I don't mean the mines/ tunnels that load game when you enter), but I'm pretty sure they count as "outside" for badges/achievements.

It's cool; I also have a crap-ton of antibiotics/mushroom tea. Only need to do 50 more days; if I die from any of those things, then it doesn't matter; I still added onto the day counter for the Cold Fusion feat.

Oh, also, I play on Pilgrim like a chump.
