Desolation Point the hardest Interloper
I find desolation point the hardest starter on Interloper.

for few reasons.

1. I have never found matches in any explorable location. (see point 2)
2. I cant get a light source to explore anything, i have probably died in that boat dozens of times because its too dark to explore, and i get trapped somewhere between walls, even at peak times of the day light, the whaling shack is the same, its too hard to explore without a light source but i have never been able to find a match or a flare or anything in this location.
3. the only ways that i know of how to get in, and out of this area is via mines, but again without a lightsource theres no way to do it.

I have had great Timberwolf Interloper Starts, and in Timberwolf at least there is always a box of matches to be found. but to me it seems Desolation Point starter on Interloper, is just a write off.

Have you ever started here, found matches or lantern? flare even? Enough to be able to get away from here?

I always find at least one pack of matches here, more often two. It's tempting to say one box is guaranteed, but I've read other accounts of players turning the place over and coming up empty.

They can be hard to spot in Whale Processing, and if they're not there - any number of places, but you take your life in your hands attempting to search some of them such as the car or the Lighthouse. I agree with you. A little bad luck turns this region into a lousy start.

I think if they don't want to guarantee matches here that is fine because of the abundance of places to get warm without a fire, but they should if they could guarantee a flare or something, just so we can actually get through these mines, But who knows. I'll keep trying them when they pop up, but so far all my Desolation Point runs have turned up the same issue.

There are two or three possible match locations in Hibernia. It's where you should be heading first. Don't bother much with the lighthouse or the Riken.
Otherwise it's difficult, yeah. Buildings are just too cold to be warm. And it's a long walk to CH during which you lose a lot of condition.

The TWM start is one of the easiest. It actually has two boxes of matches. One in three-way cave above Echo Ravine and one in the hut. Plus a tool. And then more stuff at the farmstead.

I think that matches are guaranteed in Hibernia. People who say they didn't find any just don't know where to look. I don't recall ever not finding them. They are always upstairs on the 2nd floor. Hard to see but you can still see them if it's daytime.

Alternatively, there is often a flare downstairs at the workbench near the fire barrel. Either on the bench or underneath it. If you check here first, you can light the flare and then go upstairs to search for the matches. You might want to start a fire with it first in the fire barrel and pull some torches.

Here's a link to a thread I wrote a while back to give you an idea what potential loot you can find on a DP interloper spawn.

The problem with Desolation Point is that it's connected to the rest of the world in a very linear fashion with few ways of avoiding wolves - and there's always wolves on that path. It is indeed the hardest Interloper spawn, with TWM being the most fun and balanced and HRV being stupidly overpowered (unless Milton has been nerfed). Pleasant Valley and Forlong Muskeg are balanced, I guess.

It used to be hard to find matches on Interloper, but at some point that got changed and my pockets have been full of them since then. That includes DP spawns. Maybe I just check too many loot spawn points, idk.

Maybe it helps if you recalibrate your brightness... ;-)

Also, the cave in CrH often has matches. Not fixed though. In my current game they weren't there

Brightness Recalibrated to full blast

I can confirm full blast brightness allows vision inside the boat which as previously pitch black at near 33% brightness

There are ways to avoid them. They patrol certain areas during the morning v. the afternoon (learn which is which- its not hard). I rec you check the ice first. If they are down there, then just go the inland way. If they are not there then billygoat down to the ice. Carefully make your way towards CH. Have a torch lit. Be extra careful near the cave entrance, as sight lines tighten. If they are on the ice there you can back them down with setting fires, retreat and go the inland way (though you better hustle), bait them or kill them. All with sight lines wide as can be, so you always have the initiative.

Now going through CrH to DP is another story, but equally do-able.
It's not just the wolves in DP itself, those can be avoided. The problem lies with that area you have to cross on your way from DP to Coastal Highway, I think it's called Crumbling Highway? It's really narrow and linear, I don't know how you can avoid wolves there without offering them meat (while not letting them sneak up on you) or stimming to fight them off. Unless they disappear from the map entirely at some point during the day... I don't know of such mechanics.

As said, it depends on where they are. It's certainly dangerous, but it's usually possible to sneak by them along the ice. You can go down at one end and climb up the other. I've been jumped that way, but rarely.
You can also go along the other edge of the map and take shelter in the basement

The wolves are a bit forgiving in the 1st couple days of loper but I still don't take any chances. When you come out of the mine into crumbling highway, you can hop over the fence to the right and hug the rock wall all the way around to get close to the road to CH. Although you probably want to stop on the way and loot the cellar of the burned down cabin.

It's not entirely safe, so some crouch walking and hypothermia risk is likely required. You can also enter the region with a good handful of stones. Stay crouched and throw a rock as far as you can here and there to attract any nearby wolves so you know where they are, in case you can't see them lurking.

Out there, you can see them coming a long way off. Once you have them killed, you can go up to loot the basement and car.

Thanks, I'll have to give this a try. To be honest, I've always taken the other route so that's what I'm comfortable with. In the past, I've rarely had a bow when going through there.

Other than the truck, car, and basement. Is there any other loot out there that you know of in CRH?

I always know where the wolves are going to be in Crumbling Highway
- whichever direction I chose.

Far left, far right - never makes a difference. So for me, deterrence is a better plan than avoidance. I'm adding throwing rock decoys to the list. That's a good one.

So are there always just 2 wolves in CRH? If you exit the mine and sneak left over to the ice and you see the wolves, is it safe to say you are in the clear to go over and loot the car and the basement? Or is that still in there detection zone?
