Right now, there are no proper mods.
Scariest thing I can ever remember happening is getting attacked by two wolves, barely making it back to the camp office in Mystery Lake in a black and grey blizzard, lighting a fir fire to shake the cold, and crawling into bed nearly dead. Used the last of my food and water, set 10 hours sleep. Barely slept at all and a message popped up saying "Something woke you up." Pitch black, silent, the blizzard had stopped.
Most terrified I've ever been in this game. Turns out this was a feature meant to help! But the timing caught me when I was 100% on edge.
Some sort of cabin fever mod or psychosis that manifests in a hundred+ day games could be interesting. Very rare sounds of something not there. It would be intense but I don't think it adds to Hinterland's pure survival experience, so it probably won't happen before modding, which is distant future.

Some of them may even be slightly serious. Slightly.
+1
This old man's heart can't take more than what I have now.
As a reminder we do not support modding of The Long Dark at this time. Since this seems more like a wish than a mod discussion we'll leave this open for now.
