[SOLVED] 1920x800 Borderless win(ter)dow: Make a dream come true?
1920x800 cuts down 280 lines-worth of performance, as demonstrated by a youtube channel; Widens things to the awe-inspiring 2.40:1 aspect ratio, feels like watching The Revenant with Leonardo DiCaprio, and had me dreaming.

In a Samsung 16:9 TV, which is all I have for a monitor (as so many like me who go without representation will ever have), a borderless window is the only one who gives us such pleasures in Half-Life 2, and Chivalry, both through simple launch options text. But not the lovable The Long Dark.

In-game menus won't show us the secretive 21:9 resolutions open-handed (but neither did Chivalry's or Half-Life's for that matter). Steam's launch options or XML edits will go ignored. 1920x800 is in there for me too. But I'm in the dark.

In honesty, we don't need your help to tell us it can't be done.

But if you're willing to think outside the box, to cellebrate the creativity of our communities, looking at everything we've made possible before, unstoppable since the dawn of PC gaming...

Through mods, unrelenting boldness and encouraging communication between our unsung heroes who share their hundreds of man-hours for free, then you will comment on my supplication.

I rebuke and chasten as many as I love. Doesn't the very Lord Jesus say same thing, now crowned with power in the book of Revelations, chapter 3, being Himself an example to us all?

When I get to play The Long Dark, here in my bedroom, on a borderless 1920x800 window, I won't allow myself to let your thanks go unsung.

TLD shows you every resolution your monitor/TV reports to your graphics card. Doesn't matter if fullscreen or borderless. 1920x800 ist no a resolution your typical monitor got on his list. Even if it were, the internal scaling of most TVs is just crap.

BUT .... every somewhat modern graphics card supports additional custom resolutions. So, grab you display driver (Nvidia/AMD?) Add 1920x800 and enjoy the game.

Oohhhhhh, what a pity, my friend, I would, I would indeed, but it doesn't work for me, and I had heard of this. I still want to thank you very much xD

This video was what first suggested it, but AMD will, of course, tell me my "monitor" (Samsung TV) isn't compatible with the desired resolution. I checked its manual for the list of supported resolutions, and indeed it's not (it's a fine 1080p TV from 2011, still strong).

I did cellebrate when Half-Life 2 did it on borderless mode, when Chivalry:Medieval Warfare did it too, but... I don't know. Borderless window is the way to go. There *is* a way for me. We are yet to find it.

But OLEOLEOLAHUUUUUUUUUUUUUU, God saw your heart, so here's a thank yooooouuuu...!

RandomGaminginHD ... nice! Good channel.

You can try adding a custom resolution with "CRU":

Mmm, it didn't work. The game started, but fullscreen, just the same. Sometimes the same command needs different spelling, so I tried "-window -noborder" (it worked for HL2). Then the game just doesn't run. Thank you! Nonetheless!
I will take at yours too now, krebsimitat.

tld does not use source engine, source launch options may not work

Makes perfect sense. Just out of curiosity: Is there a way to know which launch options work with a game? I set "-window -noborder -w1920 -h800" for HL2, but set "-window -noborder -ResX=1920 -ResY=800" for Chivalry: Modern Warfare.

Okay, not gonna lie... I'm too scared to try this. It's good thinking, and it may successfully give me what I desire. But perhaps... something that doesn't change Windows in its entirety.
(I mean... that's basically what I would've already done if the AMD driver had allowed me to (and I would've gladly gone for it, windows explorer and everything), but even AMD told me to be scared of using AMD's drivers to set custom resolutions THROUGH AMD'S UTILITY, under danger of losing warranty, so we are here. (Seven strong years ^-^ what a deal ^^)) Hehehehh! Oh well... Still, thank you once more...

you will need to find out what game engine is used, but even then the devs can dsiable launch options or customize them

wsgf.org has instructions for most games to make them work on 21:9 or eyefinity/surround modes not natively supported by the games
WE DID IT. it's working. 1920x800 borderles window.

Launch options: -popupwindow -screen-width 1820 -screen-height 800

First of all, you were right,

Ursprünglich geschrieben von _I_:

I apologize, -popupwindow was working. I just mistook it for fullscreen because (...heh!) it filled my whole screen. Then ChevyNoel, a Reddit user, pointed me to Unity Engine's full list of "command line arguments".

And, krebsimitat, it didn't take long to find "-screen-height Override the default screen height. This must be an integer from a supported resolution."

Then I just set a black wallpaper on my desktop, told windows taskbar to hide, and I'm playing The Revenant, the game! Phew...

I left it on the menu screen for quite a while. The Long Dark's menu (specially in 2.40:1) is a pretty nice screensaver.

Then I finally played it, capping things to 24fps through MSI afterburn (This may be unpopular, but this all happened because I'm an aspiring filmmaker, since 2009), wider view, black bars top and bottom. Died, played it again...

It's interesting. Now that I got what I wanted... It seems vanity. It was all vanity.

But I'll thank God. Talking to you was not vanity. Who chose the family you were born in? Who planted the helping heart in both of you, along your lifestories, and provided your conditions to be part of Steam? So I thank God for you.

All the rest... Is but vanity.

I've always guessed my parents made a deal with the devil, which I'm now paying for.

But I'm glad your problem is solved :) And if you ever get the chance, try a triple screen setup with TLD. Veeery nice.
