Vista Locations and Polaroids

I feel like there is something I am not getting with this new mechanic. So far I have gotten 5 polaroids which pointed me towards the FM radio tower, Forestry Lookout, Andre's Peak, the summit, and Echo One Radio Tower. However, only the summit and the Forestry Lookout actually showed up as a vista location on the map. The others did not. I tried mapping from Andres Peak and I certainly did not get the mapping bonus from that location. Also, even when I mapped at the summit and the Forestry Lookout the little popout that told me that location is a vista did not go away. So my question is, am I doing this right or is there something I am not getting with this?

Yes, I am not sure if it is working as intended, as I have had a couple not trigger after I visited what I thought were the vista locations after finding polaroids. However, I am not sure if this is a bug or if I have the locations are wrong. I have been assuming that the polaroids I find are showing me the vista in the map I am in, but I don't think this is correct. Recently, I was in Bleak Inlet and right after arriving for the first time in this save, I arrived at a location and there was a pop-up that I was at a vista. Using the charcoal revealed almost the entire map. However, I hadn't found a polaroid there - I had just arrived. I am wondering if one of the polaroids I found in a different map was for BI. If yes, I am not sure I have been going to the right locations. The images are not very clear and I am not always sure if I am in the right spot. I found a polaroid in ML showing a lookout, but when I went to the ML lookout, there was no vista announcement. Maybe it was showing me a lookout in a different map?

I also experienced the same issue. I have found the polaroids at Desolation Point, Forlorn Muskeg, Pleasant Valley and Coastal Highway and none revealed a big portion of the map when picked up, as I was told they worked. In the case of Forlorn Muskeg, after picking the item up at the Radio Tower next to the cave going to Mountain Town I was given the option to use the charcoal at that same spot on the map and in that case I was able to see a big portion of it. However this just makes me more confused. Was this because of the high advantage point while mapping or because of the polaroid? Do we need to use the charcoal at the same spot we found the polaroid? Because in the case of Desolation Point, after finding it at The Riken I mapped and didnt get anything different than the usual small spot.

I don't think the polaroids are at the vistas (well maybe a couple are, such as the one you mention first under the spoiler tag) - but I think the idea is that the polaroid tells us where the vistas are. We still have to go to those locations. I have found a polaroid in a cave, and that definitely is not an elevated position. The polaroids are just clues to where the best spot is for making a map. I am not sure how informative they are as sometimes the message and the image are not that clear so I am not sure where I am supposed to go.

I am starting to think that I am experiencing some glitches. I think its because I am on an old run and I have all the locations discovered and mapped (this was the save I got Faithful Cartographer on). Maybe this prevents the vista from showing on the map. I might ask HL about it on the support portal.

Yeah, my vista location on Forlorn Muskeg is also bugged near the Hat Creek. Can't find the spot for vista. All the other 7 vistas have worked just fine.
