Are the bears afraid of fire or not?
I was cooking steaks and suddendly heard bear moaning. Stood up nad turned back. He was very close. Left my steaks at the fire and ran away. Kept an eye on the bear, thought he wil be scared by the fire, so i can go back. BUT. He just walked throught the fire like some marvel hero, stomping on my steaks. I do not remember, but were all the wild life not afraid of fire once? Am i not safe at the fire? if i make a fire inside the cave, it will not protect me against bear attack??

Bears are not afraid of fire. Not sure if things have always been that way but everything I have read indicates that bears have never been afraid of fire (but not sure). If a bear can go into a cave, it should still be able to attack you there also.

I don't think bears were ever afraid of fire in this game.. At least since I'm playing..

Wolves were afraid of fire, but now it's not 100%.

So.. To answer to your question.. No, you are not safe at the fire. Harvest bit by bit, and don't have any meat on you while cooking.. And crouch.. Always crouch..

but I was never attacked in the cave.. So.. I don't know about that..

Oh, yeah, I saw that when you posted last time.. I still don't trust the technique! I'm to afraid to test it :)

My wolf hunting is.. Go straight to them.. Aim.. Let them run at me, and just put an arrow in their head just when they are about to jump at me.. Same as Atheenon does in his videos..

As for bears.. I try to find a rock where I can be kinda safe or close to building/car.. I never use fire for hunting.

I just had a bear walk past my fire next to the front door of Trapper's, before proceeding around the corner to where I was cowering next to the fence you can't get past. Fortunately, while jumping over a fence is not an option, walking off a cliff edge is. If there's a ledge below that you can stand on, too, it becomes to closest, uneventful bear encounter in Long Dark history. Which it was.

Yes bear can attack you inside a cave, with fire running (BR cave near Hunter blind).

I've never known them to be afraid of fire, but I did find something they are afraid of in my latest run... Sleeping survivors. Apparently bears are terrified of a survivor wrapped in a bedroll. They probably think it's some kind of giant bear eating worm.

So I didn't find this out on purpose. I was in Coastal Highway at the lookout tower and I had just deployed the rope it was nice outside and I just needed to get my exhaustion level above the carrying capacity mark so I could climb down real quick. I didn't even know the bear came UP THERE?!? I heard the bear, but I thought to myself that it was just down below and I could wait it out on the ledge down there. I placed down my bedroll, selected 2 hours of sleep as that's all I needed and then I heard the bear charging. I thought my run was over, but when I woke up, I turned around and the bear was running away from me towards the direction of the coal mine to PV.

Definitely seems like an exploitable bug, but I haven't gone out of my way to test it more thoroughly.

This sounds pretty crazy, especially on Loper! Best case, you're repairing a lot of your furs.. Worst case, death. Could be exhilarating, if nothing else. Sounds like you're a steel hand with the bow! :fcp_wolf:

I can never get a head shot when they stall by the fire, so I lose too many arrows. I use the same technique as marejov83, but I take off my hats and gloves first. works more times than not.

of course, my first tactic to deal with wolves is to RUN
