Advice on hunting a moose
I'm based at Trapper's Cabin on day 65 on loper and I plan to hunt the moose that spawns out front. It's the first time I've gotten this far on loper after a gazillion deaths in the first few days so I don't want to mess this up. I have 5 arrows but only have archery level 1. Is this a good idea or am I likely to shoot all 5 arrows in it without even killing it, thus wasting them all? Is it better to wait until I level up in archery? What is a good spot there to shoot from, so it can't maul me after the first shot? Do moose generally run far off after you shoot them or do they return to their spot? Is it doable to shoot it twice in quick succession before it runs off? Any other tips are welcome.

Interesting situation you got there lol

The bow does good bleeding damage, so with one hit it might eventually die...
And I believe you already know that the best spot would be one from which you cant get reached by the moose, like a fallen tree maybe, I dont remember if theres one there though..

Keep in mind that the bows range is not that good, and if you hit it while unreachable, the moose might run away with quite an advantage..

Moose don't bleed out. Unless something's changed. You'd have to get a critical hit. Lvl 1 archery. Unlikely.

At the Trappers, I tend to hide in the little shed like thingie, pop out, shoot him with a GUN, go hide if he gets upset.

Which is what he might do if you shoot him with a bow. It's probably just going to annoy him.

If you have a revolver it could be useful to finish off a moose with excessive hits.

Well I waited several weeks at Trapper's for the moose to return, but so far no luck, do moose spawns decline as well in loper? Could it be that he never returns? Or are Moose spawns more random compared to deer or wolf which are fairly predictable. On the plus side I now have 8 arrows :). But I got bored at Trappers so am now setting up Camp Office as a base. I was nicely settled in at Trapper's and forgot how challenging it is to get a good base going on loper!

Best spot is in the little barn outside trappers. You can crouch to it while the moose is around stand near and fire at the moose. Then hurry back into the crawl space as he can enter the shed itself and stomp you but cannot access the crawl space. Once he starts walking away you can repeat.

Just be warned. Moose can climb trees (apparently) lol. I was perched on a fallen tree very high up. Tree was probably 45 degree angle (the one near the cabin at unamed pond in mystery lake). I sat there for ages for the moose to get into range. Fired one shot and the damn thing ran right up the tree and smashed me to bits. Even trees arent totally safe. I even had a bear burst though a door from outside and ragged me to pieces half in and half out the door lol.

i just took that moose yesterday in my loper run! there is a rock ledge that you can use north of the cabin. then the shed is the easiest but you gotta be quick to crouch under the low part. i would certainly level up archery before attempting it with 5 arrows. read books, craft more arrows, or take some easier deer shots first. if you are ok with 'save scumming' a lil bit via alt+f4 or quitting, thats an option if 5 arrows doesnt get him down.

A useful tip: Your journal tracks kills of each type of animal separately, so if you hit the moose and it runs away, you can periodically check your journal's stats page and see whether it already bled out or not.

That only works for deer/wolves/bear, not moose. And even then, it's not a guarantee that a bear will bleed out, either.

Yeah, proximity is a factor. Killed one today and I hid behind a tree until it was really close, then jumped out and shot it in the face. Instant kill. But doesn't always work. Last time I did that, I got trampled.

You've got more guts than me. ^^ I had a nice broken tree to shoot from. ^^

I was very determined. Was tired of eating fish, wanted that delicious moose meat :D

Oh boy... we've got X and Y axis problems now (door location relative to 'outside')?
I JUST got in the door before the bear got me the screen loaded and half the bear was in the building with me lol. Got hold of me and ripped me to bits. I love this game so i wasnt really that mad, i just thought to myself it could happen in real life. You slam a door shut and it just smashes it in lol.

I feel that way when I hunt the one Coastal Townsite, skulking around & ducking into cars after every shot. :winter2019joyfultearsyul::lunar2020ratinablanket:
I also play The Hunter: Call of the Wild. That's the reason I posted this.

From all the potential dangers. (Lions, Bears, Coyote, Stampedes, etc...) I got killed by a charging moose more often than anything else. These animals are evil in disguise.

You got mauled by a bear inside a building??
