Wolf ran with my arrow

Wolf attacked me and i managed to hit him while he was coming at me , then he just ran by me i started to follow blood and paws , he went up hill fast , then again ran near me downhill. I sprained my ankle , healed and followed blood again. He ran somewhere in the lake where were 3 more wolfs... I thought he will die shortly after...I lost only arrow i had.

I hate when that happens! Damn wolf runs off with my arrow in him and dies up a cliff somewhere in bad weather with no crows for 3 days straight! I learned my lesson and make lots of arrow heads. Or i pop him with the revolver.

Happens often, i've had cases of wolves running away with an arrow between the eyes...

In your Journal, you have a Statistics page. In it, you can regularly check how many animals of each type you killed. It's a good idea if an animal is running away after being hit with your weapon(s) to quickly check the current stats and memorize (or make a note) of the current value. Then, check regularly and once the number increases, you know the animal died.
