Sharp or blunt weapon for wolf attack?
Read on the wiki that a knife or hatchet is for killing the wolf, but at the cost of your condition/clothing being damaged. Blunt objects like prybar/hammer will scare it off faster but youre not going to kill it and your clothes/condition is more intact.

But then I read on a discussion board that a hatchet is more useful for scaring a wolf off.

So... I'm guessin the wiki would be more accurate? Just seems odd that you would be more able to scare a wolf off with a prybar than a hatchet if the wiki is indeed right

My experience, prybar gets it to GTFO faster, hatchet gets you a dead wolf (after a bit of tracking).

Hatchet is something between knife and hammer. I prefer hammer as it peel off a wolf faster than others imo.

Prybar is my fave wolf runs off super fast. Last wolf attack with I actually lost just shor of 10 percent condition and the wolf let go almost after just 2 hits. Usually wolves tear me up. I actually killed one with it once too which I didn't think I could do.

Some of it depends upon the wolf too. Personally, I've tried the prybar a couple times and... yeah... wolfy didn't give one sinlge care that I was beating on it either time. I actually lost the first struggle and the next time I tried the prybar, it was close, dang thing finally got off me and ran as the edges of the screen were darkening... tore the crud out of me both times. Hammer; mixed results. Had two wolves nearby - First one bolted after just a couple whacks with the hammer, second one tore me up and took a massive beating before finally running.

I'll stick with my hatchet.

I assumed a knife would be the best for stabbing IRL, because with a hatchet, you are maybe too close to the beast (if it's on top of you) to actually swing it and put strength in it. Same with prybar.

Actually I'm pretty convinced a big a s s hunting nice would be your best option, but this is a game ofcourse and the knife does actally look more like a tiny kitchen knife :O

So maybe I need to try the axe. But after the patch last week, I never got killed by wolves anyway...

With the knife, you're guaranteed the wolf will bleed out, and quicker, and you even have a chance to kill it during the struggle. Yeah, the hatchet isn't as damaging as the knife from that aspect, but it still almost always causes a bleed out. It does, however, also have the advantage of being heavier, giving it some of the blunt weapon aspects as well.

Think of it like this - In a fight, even between people, with adrenaline and aggression running high, a sharp knife can generate a lot of cuts and punctures and not even be felt that much. You're going to notice if someone is whacking you with a hatchet or blunt object, just because of the added weight behind the impacts.

Thanks for the info everyone! Haven't played this game in many updates so all of this is new to me. Last time I played they had just added the lighthouse map (don't remember the official name).

It sounds like it runs on a spectrum from what you guys have all said

Knife- Deadliest, but youll lose more condition this way
Hatchet - Deadly, but also somewhat scary to the wolf
Prybar - Not so deadly, but definitely scary to wolf.
Hammer- Scariest? (not sure on this one)

You don't need a big knife to cause severe lacerations, as a sharp knife, serated or plain, will cause immense damage with little effort. You most likely don't want a long blade if you want to stab someone in close quarters because it's not going to be effective (due to limited space), a five cm/two inch blade should be sufficient to puncture internal organs when stabbing just as it would be more than sufficient to slice through any muscle down to the bone. No amount of adrenaline will help when the mechanical (your entire physical body operates in a mechanical fashion) aspect of your body is harmed by a knife, which it will rather quickly.
