Rabbit stun duration
Does anyone else think that the time a rabbit remains stunned is a bit too short?
I have finailly managed to tune in a method of hitting a rabbit with a thrown rock (very hard, but a nice challanging level of difficulty), but by the time I get to it, it gets up and runs away, even when I sprint.

Nope, it's WAY too easy to catch rabbits ATM. I think maybe a 3 second timer would be nice? so you have to be close before they can recover from being stunned.

You can get really close to a rabbit now while crouched... and I mean REALLY close.

I did, however had instances while I was doing some early rock-rabbiting where I would hit it with the rock but it was as if he didn't get hit hard enough (from longer distance) to stay stunned. So he scrambled away pretty quickly.

But then I realized just how close you can get to him before rock throwing. I feel rabbits should have at least triple the detection distance as they do now.

So in conclusion - crouch, get close then hit it. He won't have time to run away.

Huck & run. It's kinda fun, but I still prefer snares.

nah, it's fine. If anything, catching rabbits is too easy. They are super slow and docile compared to real rabbits.

I thought so too as well, but once I noticed that you can get very close to them while crouched and staying in their current path, this wasn't a problem anymore.

The first time I attacked a rabbit, it surprised me how fast it got up. Now I maneuver until the rabbit is walking towards me and then just chuck the stone and run. The nice thing about waiting until the rabbit is coming towards you is that it makes it practically impossible to miss. Even if the rock rolls into the rabbit, it will still be stunned.

I also think it is fine. Once you get a hang of it it becomes the easiest way to kill rabbits. Snares are still useful but the stones give you inmediate results, the short time to pick them up compensate this. But not sure if enough.

I don't know about making rabbits harder to kill. There are times where I've been stuck with that as my only food option, and I'll be dead long before I have enough cured gut to make traps from.

Maybe it could be variable though? Let their reaction time shift by how how much progress you've made. Remember, it appears that stoning bunnies was added specifically as an early method of hunting. And when you consider how easy it is to consume as many calories as you could gain from a deer, just to kill, harvest, and cook it, do we really need to be upping the difficuly further?

I like the stunning mechanic, as I think it's nicely balanced between being hard enough to give you a sense of accomplishment when you pull it off, a very real sense of emotional frustration when you do hit them and then they run away after because you weren't fast enough, and a sense of regret when you miss. Tip the balance in any direction and it either becomes so easy it's silly or so hard it's pointless.

I don't use the stun feature all that much anyways, as it doesn't suit my play style. In the lower difficulties, including stalker, I always have a butt-ton of packaged food all of the time for the first couple of weeks, by which time I've got the rifle for wolves and the bow for hunting. Even on Loper, which is what I almost always play, I can usually scrounge enough hide, meat, guts and food to keep me going the 9-10 days it usually takes me to get the bow and arrows done without taking a shot at a rabbit that isn't just a 'what the hell, I'm walking past one.' I appreciate it when it works, but it's far from necessary.

Bow hunting rabbits, on the other hand, THAT'S fun. Mid-stage loper, I can happily wipe an entire map free of rabbits lol.

Yeah, once I get the bow, I start killing slow rabbits. Better than the stone and helps my archery skill.

Snares are losing usefulness fast, not sure if I'll use them again unless I run out of arrows... or stones...

Snares don't cost you much time in the cold. Patiently crouching can get cold fast early on. I agree they should startle a bit easier - half again or double the range. As the bottom of the mammal food chain, they should be more aware and flee at any threat. It seems, and I thought I read that stoning them yields a different depletion ratio (killing the three you see may mean no more for a while) which didn't happen with snares. I think it is fairly well balanced. I tried picking up my stone first, to stay stinky the shortest time and L M F A O when it got up and ran away. I like it. I like the added choices which can appeal to more players.
