I did, however had instances while I was doing some early rock-rabbiting where I would hit it with the rock but it was as if he didn't get hit hard enough (from longer distance) to stay stunned. So he scrambled away pretty quickly.
But then I realized just how close you can get to him before rock throwing. I feel rabbits should have at least triple the detection distance as they do now.
So in conclusion - crouch, get close then hit it. He won't have time to run away.
Maybe it could be variable though? Let their reaction time shift by how how much progress you've made. Remember, it appears that stoning bunnies was added specifically as an early method of hunting. And when you consider how easy it is to consume as many calories as you could gain from a deer, just to kill, harvest, and cook it, do we really need to be upping the difficuly further?
I don't use the stun feature all that much anyways, as it doesn't suit my play style. In the lower difficulties, including stalker, I always have a butt-ton of packaged food all of the time for the first couple of weeks, by which time I've got the rifle for wolves and the bow for hunting. Even on Loper, which is what I almost always play, I can usually scrounge enough hide, meat, guts and food to keep me going the 9-10 days it usually takes me to get the bow and arrows done without taking a shot at a rabbit that isn't just a 'what the hell, I'm walking past one.' I appreciate it when it works, but it's far from necessary.
Bow hunting rabbits, on the other hand, THAT'S fun. Mid-stage loper, I can happily wipe an entire map free of rabbits lol.
Snares are losing usefulness fast, not sure if I'll use them again unless I run out of arrows... or stones...
