Cannot repair improvised tools?
Is it still true that you cannot repair the improvised knife or hatchet with a whetstone?

I finally made it to DP in Interloper and wondered if I should make more than one of each.

you can use the whetstone to repair them

Edit: but I would usually make more than 1 each anyways just in case

I was about to say, unless you're on interloper, don't waste your time. Then I realized: you're on interloper.....

I spent forty-three days hauling over 200 pieces of metal, 100 chunks of coal, and almost 250 pieces of cloth from ML, CH, and the DP to make over 60 makeshift axes. The only time I would ever use a whetstone is for the real axes, which at this rate I won't have to use for another 300 days! HAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!

Yes, but the handcrafted tools take longer to perform similar actions, and weigh more...

I think it took 40 hours to craft a wolfskin coat with improvised tools. It's been a while and I only did it once so I may be high on the hours, but it took much longer.

I thought the coat used fishing tackle?

I just finished the coat on my current Stalker run. I used the hunting knife as the tool.

Ahh, okay. I know the tackle is used for some of the crafting recipies, and I know it replaces the sewing kit for repairs...

The primary tool for crafting the wolfskin coat is a knife. On Interloper, it prompts the [iimprovised] hatchet as the primary tool, but it actualy takes less time if you use the [improvised] knife, so one should drop the hatchet from the inventory when crafting the coat.

A note on Hatchets/Knives on Interloper. Try to only use Hatchet for chopping big tree limbs. The hatchet decays very quickly (3 % per chop), and you're going to need the whetstones for the knife as well. The knife is more important. So either make several hatchets, or use the hatchet only to chop big limbs. You can use the hammer to break up stuff that's inside, and the hammer can be easily repaired, whereas the hatchet cannot. If you can avoid chopping wood by gathering sticks, do so. In general, try to use the hatchet/knife only when necessary. It is still a good idea to make at least two hatchets, two knives and 20 arrowheads if your base is far away from DP. If it's on CH, you can make just one knife and hatchet and 10 arrowheads and come back when you run out of them.
