Best way to find a moose?
Anyone know how these spawn? I checked every soawn on mystery lake and quonset in coastal highway. No moose. Haven't killed one yet either.

Is it easier to just check the places they can spawn in every now and then, or is it best to try and look through every map for them?

Go out of the rear of the quonset (ch) every morning (armed) and climb the hill of the back area, north. come back down in the early afternoon fully loaded down with firewood and loot. Works every time for me. Might take a few days or so. I got the idea somewhere here on steam.

An "creative" way: :steammocking:

"Camp" in Trappers and wait, wait, wait... someday the Moose appear there.
Then take a bunch of fire wood, some stones, hunting weapon (rifle or bow).
Throw stones for scare Moose away and leave path for you reach the barn.
Lite a campfire there - in the right side, and put firewood for 2 hours or more.
Now circle the rocks behind barn, by left side - by right side risk meet bear or wolf.
Climb rocks and goat for barn direction, "jump" for barn roof, now careful approach
to campfire area to be warmed-up, don't walk above campfire spot or will be "toasted".

Meanwhile the Moose have returned to their usual spot in middle of area, and you can safety shoot then, if need trow more stones for drive then for an convenient place.

Good approach, but I tend to prefer the direct attack. :Lacerator:

It has been a long time since I used more than one arrow on a moose. If you have Level 2 bow, and you know how to stalk a deer from the front in a crouch, there is no reason why you cannot one shot a moose as well.

When I see him outside of Trappers, I go inside for a quick warm up, grab some sticks, 2 coal and my knife, then go back out and approach slowly until he turns to face me. Crouch and approach until you are quite close, just like a deer, then stand and drop him with the neck shot.

Coal gives you the 2 hour fire to quarter and carry back to Trappers. :hatchetTLD:

Go anywhere where there are markings, then wait. Check in the morning, if no moose, go on a long walk, collect food, fish, sticks, etc. Then check again. Ive gone on an hours long walk and the moose was there when I got back, where he wasnt in the morning.

So the idea then is, just camp a known comfortable spot eh? Alright, heading back to trappers xD

As for killing the moose, I just use fire cheese. Shoot it once, run to fire, shoot it again in charge, and if it gets too close it runs.

I agree with above posters. I tend to just find a known spawn and just camp the area until one appears.

Recently, I camped at the barn at PV - would travel to the nearby birch forest everyday until one appeared (took many days, but it showed up)

I've never had any luck at the CH Quonset hut, I have one shotted a moose from the doorstep area of the Trappers Cabin, nailed one by the nearby barn, and got another at the little cabin west of Trappers (up on most maps) of the unnamed pond in ML.

Good luck and keep your eyes open.

Ugh. 10 days, no moose. Soo boring. I think I'm going to try walking back and forth between the unnamed cabin and trappers. Maybe that'll help.

About 90% of the times that I've been to Broken Railroad I have found one near the Hunting Lodge. But be careful, last time I went through I got stomped out twice and then jumped by a wolf. Ended the run.

I find one more often than not out by the Carter Hydro Dam, which is a great spot because you can set up on the side of the rock across from the creek and hunt him in safety.

Yeah. It's pretty annoying, I gave up just waiting by trappers, so I'm going past every moose spawn that I know of in mystery lake in a constant search, none in over two weeks :( I'd go in other areas, but why bother if I can hit up more spawn points here xD

I really am unsure of the spawn mechanics for moose, but for my current run it seems like if you spot a moose on a map, he will stay there till you kill him. And I don't think he will spawn in another spot for many days after that. That's my thinking on bears as well, though I think you can have more than one in a map, and I'm not sure if that's the case with moose.

In my case I saw the moose by the carter dam in ML, and weeks later he was still there. Every time I came by there he was there and never at the trappers cabin. I finally killed him, and have yet to see him respawn anywhere yet.

Interesting, so maybe it's best to check out a bunch of maps instead of camping. I finally gave up after like 25 days of checking everywhere in ML.

Finally found a moose to hunt in a new game. It seems like actively hunting moose is the way to go. Found some birch trees with markings all the way in milton basin and immediately spotted it. ugh, now to get the meat out of the basin :(

Looks like hunting a moose should be one of the first major things you do while the weather is decent, since it's quite easy to travel around at first. And dat satchel >:D

The moose is easiest found when not looking for it.
gundam_elf Feb 10, 2019 @ 4:45pm
Damn. I gave up looking for moose after killing five of them in PV, ML, CH, and WM. Haven't seen one in those regions since. But damned if there aren't enough wolves and bears to start my own insulation and carpet company!
