Where do I really need a hacksaw?
I've played survival quite a time ago, so I don't remember if I really need a hacksaw somewhere else than Timber mountain. I already visited Timber and already opened all cargos and thinking to leave the region. But I wondered is there any other region with same sort of "boxes" which also will need hacksawing? I don't remember. Railyard? No? Anything on Bleak?
* I don't need metal so opening boxes is the only real need for hacksaw

* can be fixed with toolkit anytime as long as metal scrap is provided, when most other chopping/cutting tools(knife/axe) needs grindstone or milling machine
* fast when getting meat off the frozen carcass

personal opinion (loper)
* is a tool mostly used for anything.
* doesn't need to worry about losing durability.
* since its lighter than handcrafted axe, and does most of the axe job, so i carry saw instead of axe (i don't carry axe right after cutting through HRV, BI)

I have a hatchet and tons of whitstone (well not tons but enough for 500 days goal, not a day more)

Carcass harvesting is on 4 already so not a problem. I am on nearly 100 of days. So just wondering if there anywhere same boxes as cargo? Which really need a hacksaw

Sorry. My mistake not mentioning I am on nearly 100 day. So no boxes like cargo on mountain anywhere else, right?

The big advantage of the hacksaw is that it is infinitely repairable. You just need scrap metal. I almost always use it for harvesting meat off carcasses. Takes a bit longer than the knife, but that doesn't matter. Meat needs time to cook anyways

Also .. is easy to repair with some scrap metals .. if you happen to run out of stones for hatchet..but i guess you could always go make a hatchet if you need another ..:hatchetTLD:

The ability to repair the hacksaw using scrap metal and a tool kit has been a major feature for the tool. Whether the hacksaw has enough utility is up to you. Bear in mind that it is also a tool for getting more scrap metal so it is not just for opening cargo containers on Timberwolf Mountain.

With Errant Pilgrim, there is a capability to completely repair a hacksaw and other tools but where that can occur is limited to one specific spot and certain circumstances. It is kind of equivalent to when Desolation Point was introduced along with the forge on the Riken. It can be a long walk to do something but if you have to then you have to. You should think about it and maybe make a few preparations just in case.

you really only need hacksaw for TWM..

but I really want it early in the game with a heavy hammer to get as many metal as I can and make at least 30-40 arrowheads as soon as I can...

You are referring to the big boxes at the wreckage area in TWM, you need a hacksaw to cut the locks.

I had made a bunch of arrowheads at the FM forge and ran out of coal, so I thought I'd go to the BR forge and make the rest. I got to the BR forge and lit the forge thinking there was enough coal, but it was one pice shy and I got to something like 245 F degrees, needing 270 I think.
I think 'noooooo', look around for any and can't find any. Adding other burnable material didn't increase the heat, just the duration. One piece of coal...

That happened to me too recently. So annoying especially since BR is definitely not my favourite map!

This is absolutely crazy! Am I the ONLY one who uses the hacksaw for the sole purpose of harvesting as much scrap metal I can find to make arrow heads and so on? At one point, I completely cleared all the metal inside Carter Dam, made for what was well over 100 units of scrap. Sure made a heck of a lot of arrows, improvised hatchets, and so on! That was Carter Dam. Don't get me started on how much metal I made off with from Broken Railroad and Desolation Point!
