Sounds like the only way to scare them off now is hit them with something when they are are in stand off mode...that little pose they take where they sit there and growl for a few seconds. A torch or a rock will reportedly work, though I haven't got it to work yet...I am guessing it is still a chance based system. Though the wolf coat seems to scare better now in my experience, but only if the wolf hasn't seen/smelled you yet...but I don't really want to wear that heavy thing...at least not in the Voyager run I am currently testing out the new mechanics with.
Now you must kill or avoid all wolves...I am not very happy. The game is now a wolf fighting sim.

Look at the earliest versions of the game in time capsule. It has always been that.
I have no idea what you are talking about. I've been playing it since all those build were new...I suppose you COULD have fought wolves all the time if you wanted, but you used to be able scare the wolves off. I never really cared about them that much. They were just an annoyance. Now they are the focus of the game.
Aurora wolves were the start of it...though they used to be scared of light...now they don't care.
This is such a mess. The game used to be unique...now it is no different than CoD. Kill or hide. I am done with it...the new builds at least. This is build total crap...though I can't say I've liked much of anything they have added over the last year or so.
