Any consensus on how to kill wolves?
I know 33 days on Loper isn't the most impressive thing to many of you, but to a new Loper player like me I felt emotionally committed enough for a death to hurt. Knowing I couldn't be confident enough to deal with the new wolf AI anymore, I played the game so carefully that for 33 days straight I never had a wolf struggle or kill. I had rabbit and deer clothing, bow & arrows, improvised tools crafted by Day 20ish, but even with a weapon in hand I never dared to mess with wolves...

Eventually the need for warmth forced me to think about wolf cloak. I went out to pick a fight, with 70% - 80% health, couldn't get a good aim with the zigzagging, then picked heavy hammer which I had thought would fight off the wolf almost immediately...and still died, in a fight of my choice

I feel like I'm caught in a catch 22 since the new update: I'm always playing catch up with condition recovery because it's too cold to do anything outside (and hunger); if I attempt to get warmer by making wolf cloak I'll have to risk death because I don't have enough clothing protection from the wolf cloak... :( right now I'm not even confident enough to gather 1 wolf pelt, let alone 4 needed to make a cloak

You may use some natural hunting blinds like rocks and ledges.

Try using a shanty as a retreat or escape.

This is what I try to do. especially with bears. Climbing things before you start shooting gives you a few advantages.

When I want to kill a wolf I make a fire (you should be in sight of a wolf) and wait with my bow. Thats´s all, you just have to practice shooting a bit. Warm teas, as said above, are a good idea, this should give you enough time. You might combine this tactic with luring the wolf to your position by carrying meat and guts.

Also, you might want to look for coal which makes things pretty easy. The other hint with climbing trees works good, but I just tested it with bears. Also, maybe they can climb trees in which case you might simply abort and load.

Another idea is to use wolfs for killing deer by chasing the deer in the direction of the wolf. When the wolf is busy with the dead animal you can approach and take a shot with the bow. Personally I find it more easy to take a shot this way. With time you will become better with the bow and the other tactic, standing near a fire, should be succesful, too.

Finally you can distract a wolf with a stone and while he is distracted you could take a shot from a distance. Worked several times for me.

So, that´s all for the moment, maybe it helps?

A good bow skill is required. level 3 or + facilitates

Run a deer or rabbit for wolf. Kill the wolf when are feeding.

For make a wolf jacket I make a warm campfire near Camp Office-ML to say warmed and protect and attract the 3 lake wolves (when they are near) and kill one by one.

How about some torches/lantern and warm teas to extend outside time? Plan your route so you jump from shelter to shelter (caves and sheltered fires count) to avoid the long walks until you are more confident.

My other trouble is wanting to harvest the limbs. It just seemed wasteful to light up a match to heat up tea just to go harvest limbs...I wish the devs would allow us the option to choose how many limbs to harvest, instead of having to harvest all 3 at once.

I'll have to experiment with that. I don't have a good enough knowledge of what is and is not accessible by the predators, especially with rumors that they can also climb trees after the new update.

Also do wolves not charge at you or flee when you have a fire in front of you? I had been doing bait and kill exclusively before the update that I never bothered with fires.

It's easy. Shoot em in the butt after they got the bait and walk away.

But why 🐺 coat at all? Make 🐻 coat it is much better.

This kills the wolf 95% of the time and injures it badly in the remaining 5%:

1) When the wolf starts to bark and move towards you walk it onto a flat straight area
2) Turn to face it, make sure you have some distance at this point
3) Equip your bow but don't draw it until just before it starts to run. If it does start to run it's not too late but you have to be quick.
4) Draw you bow and point it a few yards away from yourself towards the wolf.
5) When it starts zigzagging, keep your nerve, the final run will be straight
6) When it's about 3-4 meters away, shoot it by aiming below it's head. Somewhere between head and paws.
7) Headshot instant death.

You need to judge distances and timing well but it generally works well.

There are also areas where you can safely shoot from an "inside" area and wolves are deterred by magical barriers:
1.) Spence's farm
2.) The hydro dam courtyard
3.) the main door of the maintenance yard in BR

t just seemed wasteful to light up a match to heat up tea just to go harvest limbs
Then use the mag lens. But as said it's not necessary. Most of your fuel should be sticks and coal.
Otherwise there is also reclaimed wood. Lots of furniture and boxes can be busted down. Pallets are also a decent source of wood

Ice. Water. For. Blood.

But what are we gonna do? Gotta try something. I'll start practicing.

And @OP: 33 days is nothing to sneeze at, on Loper. Sorry for your loss, and GL next time.

This places was fixed? After EP-3 update wolves are getting inside.

Huh? Since when. I've been doing this trick forever. Oh, and add the front doors to the mountaineer's hut on TWM and the park office on MT map. to your list of places to "lure in wolves and shoot in the face from an unpathable location"
TheDFH Nov 26, 2019 @ 6:27pm
Well, i do know a way to kill wolves almost as easy as if you were using decoys before the update...

You don't need to use decoys or buildings... Just you, the wolf and your weapon...

95% of the time the wolf just dies... I still get a struggle from time to time, maybe i haven't mastered it, lol
