HELP! I can't kill the bear :'( Episode 2 REDUX

Hi everybody,
I'm stuck in the cave with the bear. It's been like fourty times that i catch the spear, and that I use it to try to kill the bear but it doesn't work. The small drawbar is always appearing but never get tottaly fulled, and I die. I press the spacebar as fast as i can to fill it, but it is never enough. I'm up to quit the game for good because it"s been one week that i'm trapped at this stage. Does someone as some advice ?

Bonjour à tous,
Je suis un peu frustrée car c'est au moins la 40ieme fois que je perds face à l'ours dans la grotte. J'arrive à chaque fois à attrapper la lance, à me positionner correctement pour le tuer, et j'ai beau appuyer sur la spacebar aussi vite que je peux une fois que la lance l'attaque, je ne gagne jamais. Il arrive meme parfois qu'après une attaque la lance disparaisse completement de la grotte et de mon inventaire (elle n'est pas juste tombée à mes pieds). Du coup je suis bloquée dans le jeu depuis une semaine et je ne sais plus avancer (je vous avoue que ça me dissuade complètement de continuer). Quelqu'un sait-il ce que je fais de mal et aurait des conseils à me donner ?

As just wrote in another Thread:
You've got to let the bear charge you.
At a certain distance (you'll have to find it by trial and error...) you get in position with the spear.
After poking the bear initally you'll have to spam your left mouse button (or similar atack key) to fight him off.

Hi, thank you for you're answer. I guess the left mouse button is for me the spacebar because the drawbar start being fulled but always stops at 0,08 inch from the end. And i always let the bear charge me. That's why I can't understand what's wrong.

I even tried to change commands and put left mouse instead of spacebar, but it's the same

It shouldn't take more than two tries...
With the third atack he should go down...as devs wrote.
Did you try to verify your game files via steam?
There's been a Hotfix...

Trust me mate...filling the bar is bugged for at least half of all Long Dark Players. I am one of those people. Funilly enough in Predux when you have to pull the shard out of your hand by filling the bar helped me to learn how to fill the bar.

That is the one time I have EVER in nearly 2,000 hours of play in TLD ever filled the attack bar.

I have now been stuck in the bear cave for over 80 hours...because my bar NEVER fills...and if it starts to fill by some miracle...then it will fail to fill soon enough and drop to nothing.

With over 3000 hours in the game I admit that I had a terrible time getting by the bear. It took about 20 tries before I could get to the spear alive. Then another 15 or so before I could time the spear right 3 consecutive times and finally kill him. Someone posted that you could do it 2 times and then wait for him to bleed out while hiding in a crawlspace-did not work for me as I waited about 15 minutes RT and he was going strong.

Hi! have you found some solution? did you manage to pass the part of the cave? The same happened to me, I'm trying with the "space bar" and left button and sometimes I can full the half of the bar but not quickly enough to damage the bear, he always hurts me and put me down on the floor.. I'm really annoyed about this sh-it.

Only press left button, not spacebar. When I have these button mashing tasks in games I adjust the way I hold the mouse and hold my middle finger over my 1st finger on left mouse button, then I kind-of induce my whole arm to tremor.

If you can't do that (which is no shame - it's a really stupid test), the best way forward would be to use a macro that rapidly clicks your left mouse button. You can also set yourself up a macro to effectively hold W down for autowalk.

If you go the 2nd route I'd recommend the program Autohotkeys. It takes a bit of learning how to use, but here is a script that you can use for rapid left mouse clicks (turn it off and on with the insert key)

Hi! If I don't use the space bar is even worse...I can't full almost nothing the bar (fight - damage bar) with the space bar and mouse left button I can full the half of the bar but that's all... I can't full the bar complete and hurt the bear properly. That's the problem for me.. U_U

Ha... it was about exactly the same for me.
Every part of the fight with the bear took multiple tries and many, many, many deaths.

Overall I defeated the bear like this:

You follow the bear from room to room, until the spear is right there in front of you in the last room.
You have to get to the spear from behind, so you have to get around the room using 2-3 of the niches that are distributed around the space.
The niche closest to the spear in the back of the room has a backpack in it - this is where I hung out to get ready for my fights with the bear. You need to win a fight against him 3 times total until he is finally killed.

The way to attack the bear is to wait until it is far enough away, then run to the spear and pick it up, immediately chosing it as a weapon (e.g. by pressing "2").
As soon as you see the bear getting on its hind legs you have to press+hold fire, pointing the spear at the bear running toward you. If all goes well the spear is stuck in the front of the bear and you have to press fire as fast as you can - this is similar to the way wolves are fought in the normal game.
(If you attack doesn't go as planned the bear is just going maul you. This is a really impressive and terrifying animation, but after I had to watch it about 50-60 times it did get a little obnoxious: the only way to skip it is to quit the game entirely.)

If you win the fight the bear will run away for a moment and you will still have the spear in your hands. I always retreated to a niche in order to catch my breath before stepping out again repeating the process (waiting for the bear to attack, immediately pointing the spear, fighting) etc.
After 3 won fights the bear is dead.

Hello. It also took me several tries. Once you get the hang of the spear, left mouse to attack, it gets a little easier. Just have to time it till you get the feel of when to left mouse click/spear. When it stands up and roar, be ready to click on left mouse key. The moment it comes down, spear it/left mouse click. Make sure thou you know where the bear is. where it is coming/charging from. Dont worry about bandage (unless you have a slither of red/hp left). Again took several tries.

I have the same problem, i tried more than 50 time...
In my case, I noticed that it's not necessarly the highest frequency of left mouse spam that work : if I spam the left mouse a little bit less fast, the bar fill better.

But even like that, I don't manage to have the bar filled.

Are there any cheat code to pass this step ? :(

THIS is my problem too! other people said to me "you need to click really fast" but If I do it the bar almost don't fill nothing, I have to do it not to hard or fast, but, I can't fill it complete, I just can fill half bar. I don't know why some of us have this specific problem. At the moment, I'm stuck and I can't kill the bear.

Hi. No cheat code that i know of, maybe someone else may know. i dont know. For me, when i have the spear equip, i wait for the bear to get back down (the second it gets all four paws on ground) and then press the left mouse key to initiate the spear mode and hold (ready for bear to charge that is), when spear makes contact with bear, then i have to repeatly spam the left key mouse again to fuel/fill up the attack bar to full.
also if it helps (or not) when you spam the left mouse key, hold the mouse with your left hand while spaming/pressing the left key repeatly with your right hand/finger. this way you have more control of hitting/spamming the left mouse key.
