Can you drop items off the cliff you are going to climb down?
And, you know, pick them back up when you get to the bottom? Anything like that?

Asking for a friend ~

The only things you can drop other than straight at your feet are (1) a torch (designed to be thrown at a wolf) (2) a stone (at a rabbit) and an arrow (fired from the bow).

For a while now, I've been meaning to try throwing torches over the edge of a cliff to see if that works as a way of shifting a bunch of sticks rather than leaving them behind. But it seems like quite a hassle: you'd have to put the sticks into a fire, draw them out as torches, throw them off the cliff, collect them and harvest them back into sticks.

Which are likely to be plentiful at the place you're going to down the rope, anyway. Same with stones.

But for items generally, no.

Thanks. I thought so but figured I'd ask anyway. :)

If you've got extra gear, your only real options are to:
Eat it
Drink it
Burn it
Leave it because there's always more sticks
Walk the long way around the rope climb
Or - if you are REALLY dedicated to taking all of those sticks down that rope climb - take multiple trips to get them all. Take some naps in-between.

I've thrown a torch over the cliff in the ravine on interloper so I could light a fire at the bottom, defrost the deer and to rest before the long climb up. Worked fine!

Nope...but...why use the rope for going down in the first place? ;)

Youtuber LMG did a video wher he lit a fire on top of the dam and was throwing torches off.

And wow! Definitely interested to know where that was. I wonder if it works on tree bridges, too? Will try sometime (with something I don't mind getting stuck a long way from me).

So reporting back. I gave this a go. At first I worried I hadn't thrown the torch far enough, and it would be stuck on the edge of the cliff, but it oh-so-gently toppled over on the slope and disappeared from view. Success! (I thought)

But it didn't quite go the way I expected. See if you can spot the problem:

I have found for down-climbs, you don't need a rope. You can scale down most walls if you move slow and hug the wall side to side, even if the wall is almost a sheer 90 degrees. So you don't have to drop your stuff to climb down.
